Hi All, Just bought my z3, 2.0 1999 - in love but windscreen kinda...well, opaque would be a kind way of describing it. Can anyone recommend someone in the Surrey area? Closest I could find was the Car Hood Warehouse, anyone else?

Have you had a search through the forum? There is a lot of historical, some very recent discussion on replacement window suppliers.

You will also see that a whole replacement hood may be cheaper than you think. And might be a necessity if your old hood is worn or damaged.

Welcome to the forum from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. I had a problem with mine also. It was the zip-in type. I tried replacing it but the roof was too far gone and ended up getting a new top. However, I had seen on the internet, you-tube, videos of people using cleaners such as the other forum members mentioned above, on their rear windows. There are actual videos of how to clean them up so their clear again. Good luck with it....................................Frankie

Welcome Andrew,

Recent experiences with aftermarket rear windows has shown that the easiest to fit consistently are genuine BMW ones. Granted they are expensive at about £220, but literally a guaranteed fitment!

Wherever you get one, it's a DIY job with a bit of patience and two sets of steady hands.

Cheers, Gaz

Hi and welcome from Camberley, I replaced mine a few years ago with OEM, not too difficult even on your own. :welcome:

Hi Andrew and welcome from me too near Lincoln. My Z3 was getting to the stage of needing a new roof before I sold it a couple of years ago, but if it were me I would opt for a new roof complete. There are several places you can get these done across the country.

Tony.

In a way I think that's the 2nd best option. The best option I think is getting a new window made up using your existing zip and plastic as a template. That helps ensure any small stretch is replicated when the new window goes back.

But honestly, you really need to search through the forum as this subject is discussed in great detail on several occasions and will be your best source of information.

That's not to refute Gaz's advice if you just want off the shelf. 3rd party parts are hit and miss. Sometimes from the same supplier like the Munster guys in Germany on eBay.

If going down the "zip in route", worth checking that your current window is "zip in". If hood is OEM, it should be of course, but our E36 convertible had had a (good quality but non zip) replacement hood fitted by a previous owner. We only found out it was not "zip in" after the new window had been ordered.:(
