took me a while to work out reverse, i was pushing the stick in, pulling the knob, looking for buttons and allsorts. Luckily my previous car had a stiff first gear and i accidentaly slipped into reverse, Did it a fair few times in the first week of ownership. Aswell as catching my ''clown feet'' on the dead pedal and missing gears.
First time the girlfriend took the Z3 out on her own, I got a phone call in work saying that she couldn't get it into reverse. She was a bit concerned because it kept going into first gear and she was now almost touching the car in front!

Once she realised just how far she had to push the gear stick to the left to get reverse engaged, it was easy. Now she just needs to learn to not drive the Z3 as delicately as she did her old Focus.

I had a comical moment when I first bought my 2.8. Whilst sitting in the car with the dealer pacing up and down the yard talking on his mobile phone I was playing around with the controls etc. like you do testing to make sure it went into the gears but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get it into reverse, I was pulling and tugging then suddenly the gearknob flew off in my hand but luckily the dealer had his back turned so I quickly put it back on and started whistling quite loudly. :-^

My face must have been a real picture so I just bought the car anyway. :))

Another suggestion for the Noobs wiki is how to put the key in the ignition and turn it.....I got it wrong before anyone thinks I am being facetious! spent nearly 20 minutes trying to get the steering lock off and a friend of mine got in to have a go knocked it out of gear and it freed up straight away. egg on face or what! what the combination was I cannot remember now but I hope it never happens again!

I just went out to double check what I said and cannot replicate it! It had something to do with the alarm/steering lock/in gear etc ~x(

Oh yes, forgot about that one. Gearbox was stiff as hell and required a call to the amused salesman to politely ask did BMW's come with reverse!!
