More specifically, the sport seats as fitted to an awful lot of Z3s. I'm sure this has come up before, but is the seat back heated as well as the squab? I repaired the wiring in the base of my drivers' side seat years ago, and it seems to have stopped working again. I know it's summer now, and I should man-up and live without a heated ar5e, but I'll get on and do something about it now, probably with these sort https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Pads-C...=3528018790760bf15a75803c451e82004805fd9a37fb I'm sure the switches and wiring will be fine, but, again, are the backs heated? It'd be nice if the wires are already in there and it's just a matter of a bit of a cut and shut.

I was sure I remembered something about it from several years back, but memories ain't what they used to be. Neither's nostalgia, come to that.Would be nice to get some heat on my back, that's the bit that hurts. Should never have opted to be a tank mechanic.

Just read the blurb on the ebay entry I quoted above,
Example: The high setting will have a constant range between 120°F to 125°F. The low setting ranges between 110°F to 115°F. These respective temperatures will always be maintained at these respective levels.

I love heated seats mate, couldn't do without now. The ones in my old Touareg were like sitting in a big soft armchair, great on a winter's morning.

Must admit, I've never looked at any specs for heated seats before, but 120-odd degrees seems quite warm. Just ordered them, so the proof will be in the proverbial. If my ar5e catches fire I'll let you know.

Seat bases stopping working common. Seat backs a lot less common. Possibly a fault round the base area of the back with the connecting leads.

Shame it's not easy to get round the back of the seats, I'll leave it till the new pads turn up and get stuck in. Again. Just can't remember seeing any wires going to the backrest bit of the seat, just the base. But there again I wasn't looking.

I seem to recall they are quite well sunk into the seat and plug into the lower heating loom.

Wasn't paying attention, too busy taking the leather off the base without breaking anything or losing too much skin. There's some sharp stuff under there. Hopefully the new elements will work well, it's not just a wire wiggling about the place with plenty of bends in it.

Yep, there are bits on those seat bases that can cause serious injury. I've hurt myself on those bits than pulling an engine in and out.

The pads are much much better than the chicken wires put in the seat from the factory and they cannot suffer breaks.

They heat up quicker and more evenly.

Just replace with the pads - use cable’s ties to replace the hog rings (unless you have a metal and leather punishment fetish )

oh and the seat with their bases are ******* heavy. Put a thick mat or blanket over the sills when you heave them out to minimise damage when dragging them out the car...

And whilst they out you might as well get some leather dye ordered...

I had the drivers' seat out not long after I bought the car, the seat-base wire was broken. Yes, I do remember the jaws of steel holding the leather on, and even a small amount of blood. As for the weight, yep, took me by surprise the first time, not looking forward to it this time, but that's part of the price to be paid for running this tired old car.

Just had my seats redone from memory the bit that connects the base to the rear runs up the front of the base. Maybe if you unclip the flap from the base for the backrest you maybe able to check the connection

I use the ones in my Nissan all the time in winter. The Z3 ones though do seem to get very hot and I usually bottle out and turn them off before flames appear.

They should turn themselves off after a pre-set period of time, or at least go to half-power.
