But to be honest ....my own fault, having caused a fire in the microwave:arghh:

I should have put my glasses on and I would have seen it said 2 minutes not 7 as I put it in for

Filled the kitchen with smoke, and the fire alarm went off in the hall .

All doors and windows open now trying to get rid of the smell of burnt Jam roly poly :(

I was really looking forward to that as well :banghead:

..........dont worry tank straps were saved =))

Consider your annual fire drill completed. Did you evacuate to your designated Fire Muster Point and take a Roll Call

Y’see @pgunter it’s not just me who has the occasional kitchen accident!

Tony.

Haven’t had jam roly poly for ages :)
It’s lovely with custard :)
Hope your ok and get the smell of burnt food gone soon :)

Everything still stinks of barbecued jam roly poly this morning.

All the windows and door open......and put the microwave outside.......may need to get a new one:whistle:

Wish I’d just had a yogurt now...........=))

Cooking is best left to the professionals
At Uni, my mates, in the days when we had such things, put the chip pan on to heat up and then totally forgot and went to play football. It was with some confusion and increasing concern as they arrived back to find the street full of fire and rescue vehicles that they realised what they had done. Damage was contained to the kitchen thankfully but could have been so much worse.
Anyone remember chip pan fires happening all to often? I recall having seen them on a number of occasions as a kid. Maybe just mums cooking though =))

Here in the days of oven chips, the Actifry and numerous late night food shops the old chp pan is redundant.

Tony.

Still going strong mate, not as much but still a big impact.

"Chip pan fires cause one fifth of all accidental dwelling fires attended by the fire and rescue service in the UK each year. Nearly 20 people are killed or injured every day in accidental fires that start in their kitchen, the most common of these caused by deep fat frying. If you do choose to deep fat fry your chips, make sure you do it safely. Better still, choose oven chips or use a thermostatic fryer".

Cant believe that there is still a smell of burnt jam in the kitchen.:arghh:

All the doors and windows open again, the extractor fan going on full power.....and microwave put back out in the garden......never again to return to the kitchen. Every time I used it since it gives out a burning odour.

So new microwave to be ordered. No doubt new ones now need your wifi code before they will work :banghead:=))

Might just have saved myself a few quid !!!!!

With the thought, ‘ I’ve got nothing to lose’ , I stripped the cover off the microwave to get a good look inside.and it was covered in a film of dust..and stunk of smoke........so washed it all over and it can sit out in the open air all day to dry and clear.

Couldn’t see any signs of the components actually being burnt.

With a bit of luck it might be ok .....but if its not.....it was worth a try:whistle:

Malc, Shirl says dissolve some bicarbonate of soda in a mug of cold water and heat and simmer in the microwave as long as you can without boiling dry.

Tony

It won't get rid of the smell but if you place a lightbulb in a china mug and fill with milk to above the metal screw in or bayonet part and pop it in and press go, the light bulb lights up :D

I’m still trying to get rid of the burning smell from the first time .....=))=))

The first time. What did you cook then mate.

Tony.
