Today I thought I would fit two sets of seat risers to both seat in the 2.8……

These are made by a mate of mine and available if anyone wants any.

The finishing caps are the wrong ones as I bought the wrong size , but correct ones are on their way

I did the passenger seat first, and after sorting the carpet out so the circular cutout was spaced evenly round the stud, eveything fitted perfectly. It was easier to remove all the seat fixings (front and rear) and then reinstall them.

So onward to the drivers seat…… got all the fixings out and put the spacers in place..
They go this way up

So fitted everything back …..and just ran the seat forward to make sure all ok……. Err no … horrible scraping sound !!!!

So undid all the fixings which was bit of a problem as moving the seat caused the horrible scraping sound… which did not sound good !!!

Then to add insult to injury…pulled the lever to get the seat back forward and it wouldn't move 😱…anyway….finally manage to lift the seat out….

And underneath….was the metal part of a USB stick laying on the carpet……unfortunately the other part of the stick was nowhere to be seen.

It had obviously dropped down from the centre console, and at some point, when moving the seat to fit the risers, it moved and got trapped in the
Mechanism….🤬🤬🤬

So with two problems to sort out ….

Still not found the rest of the USB stick yet….but thats for another day …. and need to sort the seat back mechanism …..both cables ok so will have to remove the seat covers to get to the problem ……..oh the joys of owning a Z3….😂😂

O no what a disaster 🙁
Really hope you get your seat back in very soon 🌞

Sorted the motorised part of the seat this morning…. All the broken USB stick removed… and with a made up test lead checked the motors were working properly

But then had to sort the tilt mechanism……….

Didnt think I’d ever have to strip the seat done this far again 😱

but also had a problem with the spring mechanism …. One side not working correctly…. So after rebuilding the seat, the cable became disconnected so had fun and games trying to get the cable back in position…..but then found a problem with the release mechanism.

No way to repair the tilt mechanism so found a pair on ebay and bought them …. So I will strip the chair down again in the next day or two so it will be stripped down and ready to fit them when they arrive.

I think thats called ' the joys of motoring ' i feel your pain working with cars every day well versed in ' yeah that'll take 20 mins '
3hrs later

I am getting good at this …. Started at 9.10 am….and by 9.52………

All due to these !
The bottom one was seized solid at the join…but it did clean up eventually and would have been ok……but what I found was on the top one , the part where the cable is attached was loose and had quite a bit of play in it and also the spring is slightly shorter than the bottom one….so something in the mechanism is not right…. And no obvious way of taking it apart to fix
Luckily I found a pair for £36 with free delivery, so not worth the trouble of even trying to take it apart.

new tilt mechanisms arrived yesterday so this morning an hour in the garage and seat rebuilt,

back in the car sitting on the new risers and all good …. Except for one little issue…..
I had to start the engine so I could get the electric roof down …..and not having a seat in the car…the airbag light now on 😱

Used the code reader to clear it ….. but when I turn the ignition on and start the engine , it goes off for about 2 seconds then comes back on again. :banghead:
I have a B800 reset tool and the same thing happens. Checked both seat connections and all ok so puzzled now

Think I need a visit from the new guru of electronics…… @Matt Barnes 😂😂😂😂

another thing to try is disconnect the battery for while?... failing that next time you're in this neck of the woods I could hook up one of my 50 odd scan tools 🤣🤣

You can put the lecy roof in manual model Malc , just open the valve on the motor 😁

you also don't need to start the car for the roof. Just angle it enough for the switch to click with your foot on the brake is all you need. Oh and the ignition on 🤣

Happy Bunny again…. code reader said seat belt restraint drivers side…. so removed connector , sprayed with contact cleaner … replaced , cleared code and now light stays off

What I think I should do in future is
get someone else to do all the jobs on the car

Should have thought of that as I did undo the valve when I first got the car to save turning the engine on every time while I was working on it

Well done Malc, persevering llike you normally do
