Hi Guys,

Quick question about the Simota induction kit. Am I correct in saying that the kit designed for the 2.8 should fit the 2.0 6cyl engine, I believe it is the same interface. Also has anyone bought one before, is it worth the money?

I seem to have found one for an okay price here

Finally if I do get one, it it worth trying to plumb extra air flow from the front in to at area as the current design uses an intake next to the headlight to direct air. I have seen Mike Fishwicks guide but I think that references the pre face lifted car.

Cheers

Alex

Ive read of gains of between 6 to 10bhp and seriously considering it. others say no benefit but makes a lovely noise. let me know if you get it done please.

Should go nicely with my Supersprint exhaust, I'll do a vid at the weekend when I have time to get it really hot.

I had a Simota fitted to my 2.0 6cyl, it was actually the one for the Z3M but the company I bought it from had already fitted it to a 2.8 and was confident they would fit mine. It fitted like a glove up to the cold air inlet by the passenger headlight.

Don't expect much in the way of performance gains, but what you can expect is better air flow in to the engine which makes things just run much better and smoother. This coupled with the Eisenmann back box, and a cold winters morning made the car sound like it had at least 4 extra cylinders ;)

I would definitely 100% buy another if I had the money for my 2.2.

With regards to the K&N you don't get a heat shield included so suffer from sucking in engine bay heat. The Simota funnels air from the front of the car, and the carbon fibre shroud keeps out the heat from the bay. So, over priced but it does at least take in the principals of what this kind of intake is supposed to do!

In the picture there is a little filter, any idea what that's for?

I'd say that's a generic image, mine looked nothing like that when I unboxed it.

Well both are available the 2.8 kit and the Z3M kit. I would imagine the 2.8 kit is closer to being correct.

Just found this in my emails from 2011 from Just Roadster when they used to sell them. The box that was delivered had CF610-31 stamped on it, but there was a mix up with the bits in the box. Apologies for my rusty memories...

"We have sold the same Simota unit for the Z3 2.0 as the Z3 2.8. The 2.00 has an unusual air box configuration (the one we fitted did) but the Simota still fits great.

I have attached a photo of the Simota fitted to the 2.0. So long as it’s a six cylinder engine you will be OK and very impressed with the look, Sound and general running of the car"

All much of a muchness with air filters. The gains will not be noticeable on the road, just the noise.

I bought @t-tony's induction kit of his 2.0 and he fitted it last week onto my 2.8. I don't know the make but I'm sure he'll be along shortly to tell all. As for power, negligent maybe, but it does deliver a lovely sound that's for sure! :D

TBH Dave I can't remember the make, I know I bought it off eBay so I can dig back and find out where it came from if anyone wants to know.:)

Ive gone for the Simota too, the power gains was 6 bhp, but the engine sounds more raspier like the s54. Expensive but its our hobby.

Leave it with me Dave. Of course the heat shield was fashioned out of a couple of baked bean tins by a geezer in a shed.;)

Looks as though he no longer sells on eBay Dave or at least he has no items for sale at present.
