The indignity of the rental helmet

Surprised they let you have an open face helmet in a soft top, rules changed about a year ago to state you must have full face even when the roof is up! looking forward to your feedback :)

Fooking hell that was bloody BRILLIANT!! :coolsteer)
Defo gave me more confidence in the Z3M (not so scared of it's power now)
Even managed to bag myself a free instructor :D :rally:
Was learning how to take lines when to brake and when to get the power down :D

Keep an eye out for the March taster track day
Hope to see some more of you next time

Lee reckons the 80s want their helmet back

What a cracking day.

I was at Silverstone earlier for the piston heads meet, running over with a track coupe and a C63. Such a mental drive over. Then came home to wash the car

Drove over Silverstone with @GazHyde and @BMBabe, only to realise that I'd forgotten my bloody license, so had to return home.

The track was awesome, 6 cars only. Gaz and I were having fun until a pesky evo got in the way.

I definitely could have taken more out of the brakes ( I didn't cook them unlike someone else), and my lines were probably crap, but the coupe didn't miss a beat, was utterly awesome on track. Oil ended up at 110 c, and it was full on for 30 mins

Absolutely brilliant

Well, that was bloody epic! 30 minutes on the Silverstone National Circuit, layout in black below.

Being my first track experience in my own car I got in to the car saying I would just make progress around try not to crash. Having said that I was just behind Martins Z3M Coupe, and once the pace car led us out for two sighting laps...:ymdevil: Took a few laps to find my feet, the better lines, braking spots and so on. Struggled a little on Woodcote which is pretty deceptive, it was right between gears. First time I tried to shift in to fourth a bit late and it unsettled the car and I drifted out to the rumble strips. Second time round I changed earlier and that was much better for the rest of the laps.

What followed just put the biggest smile on my face. To the professional eye it likely didn't look too pretty, the 4 wheel drifts and opposite lock episodes as I was figuring my limits on some corners. But I was flat out pretty much where I could be, tried desperately to reach 120 on either of the straights but just wouldn't quite make it. I clearly wasn't using all of the road in some corners, so tried to learn each time and push it a little later on the brakes and let the car run out wider. Reckon it was somewhere around 20 laps in total, although who was counting!

The brakes have suffered, had horrendous shuddering on braking down from the straights at about 115-120 ish. Nursed them a little and a couple of laps later they came back and didn't cause too much trouble from there. Think I've boiled my brake fluid though as I can't get much pressure in to the pedal on the way home. Probably due a change anyway. I'm running MTec grooved discs and Yellow Stuff pads, I'll post a picture of the brake dust later

As for how she handles, pretty darned good. Would love some more front grip if I do it again, likely better tyres would help although the Falken's didn't do to bad overall. Need some grippier seats as well as I kept wanting to slide out of them at Brooklands. The N52 Si engine is just fantastic, didn't skip a beat despite the complete beating for 30 mins flat out.

I switched the DTC on which allows for a bit more wheel slip than the default nanny mode. This certainly helped, although it was being a little over intrusive on Luffield. Could feel it backing the throttle off when I wanted to got quicker... Didn't feel brave enough to switch if off fully, maybe next time now I know how well she handles.

The 30 minute session was spot on though, 4 Zeds, an Evo and a Porker 9 something or other. The Evo was a rolling road block, horrendously slow round corners but you couldn't get past him on the straights once his turbo spooled up. Lapped him at least three times, he pulled off the circuit before the end of the session and wasn't in the car park when finished. The Porsche was a bit strange, didn't see him at all on the circuit and he was first on. Someone said they saw him by the side of the track, and the only time I saw him he came out of nowhere and I let him past.

Well done @BMBabe for organising a cracking afternoon!

That's what they were loaning, no idea other than that I'm afraid Brian.
They were not doing a 'pedal to the metal' track day...;)
We weren't planning on... but it did end up like that :ymdevil:

Great write up guys and girls, it’s addictive isn’t it!!!!!

The Brooklands/Luffield to woodcote corner is a bugger to get right.
