Looking good. I hope that’s not a facelift…you get lynched in some parts for calling a facelift a wide body. Some 2.8 owners can be quite militant about that😀

Yes its a 2.8 pre facelift widebody, the raised haunches of the facelift much more reminiscent of the styling seen on the 507 shouldn't be referred to as a wide body...the picture above demonstrates the difference well. I believe I'm right in saying the widebody shares the rear arches with the Z3M.

Annoying the M police by adding the styling queues from the Z3M (side grilles and wing mirrors) just because I like the look of them rather than trying to 'pass it off' as a Z3M, 99 out of 100 members of the public wouldn't know a Z3M anyway and if you know your Z's you can tell its not an M straight away.

Buying those products from BMW is quite tricky now, they will not sell unless you provide a Z3M vin number.

I did own a Z3M 20 years ago but can't justify spending £20K+ for a good one now, this cost me £4K and though I have spent a bit on underside bits etc its just about right pending a new roof from Croydon.

Parked at BMW Rustington the other day it got a lot more attention than many other BMW's costing crazy money. These Z's will never look dated, they are modern classics, love tootling to the pub down country lanes in this my third Z.

I’m also partial to a silver Z3 costing a lot less than anything that looks half as good. Yours is a spotter’s nightmare. The headlights made me think it was a facelift.

Interestingly the middle image posted purporting to illustrate wide body pre facelift has the rear light clusters from the Z3M, that were available to purchase from the get go. The original had the light clusters with the orange/red top half. Add the Phillips silver vision bulbs or spray the orange bulbs to complete the look.

I have those lights fitted to my 1998 2.8 original, not facelift.

Similarly the 'facelift' clear front lights, again with SV bulbs were also available from the get go. See my avatar.

The original lights are in my loft

Black kidney grill covers also available. Clear side indicators with silver heat resistant lacquer to colour the orange original bulbs was a common mod.

Interior mods included armrest pads on doors, centre console with coin holder and moveable arm pad, seatbelt pads with stitching to match interior with Roadster wording, mobile phone holder fitted to transmission cover on drivers side a Plummer unit I recall, alloy pedals.

Front strut brace, butt strut and body braces stiffened up the car and massively improves handling.

Advent of soft top colour variations followed. Mine has a green roof to align with moss green interior with sports seats.
