Im running 225 45 17's all around. If I can go wider on an 8" wheel, why does everyone go down in highth when they go wider?
like you running 245 40 17 on the rear instead of 245 45 17.

In all honesty I'm not the best to answer this but I think its due to original BMW wheels being staggered where the front are narrower than the back. To my knowledge I'm running standard sizes as what it left the factory???

To maintain the same rolling radius, if you keep the profile the same then the rolling radius will increase and the speedo will be innacurate.

So somewhere in my cars history before the wheels were changed, it had staggered wheels from the factory with lower profile tires on the rear than the front?

If its not staggered are they the same highth then. Im asking all this because my rims are 8" all around but Im checking to see if I can put a wider tire then 225 on my rear wheels. And if so you guys are saying I should drop to a 40 from 45 in highth

This thread has gone rather off topic but yes, if you go from 225 to 245 you need to go to 40 profile.

Does the Vin. Decoder tell you what wheels your car left the factory on?

Tony.
