Should I glue this flap inside the roof?

My newly acquired Z3 2.2 has this flap inside the soft top.

It generally ends up hanging down and slightly covering the top of the rear window, and I then push it up as in the photo so it is above the roll hoops. Should it be glued to the fabric behind it, thus permanently fixing it in the position shown in this second picture?

I don't want to glue it in place only to find I shouldn't oughta have done it!

Just been out and looked at mine, that piece seems to be fixed permanently, don't know how. Before gluing it, might be an idea to blu-tack it or similar and try the roof up and down to make sure it doesn't rip anything.

You could glue a thin strip of Velcro to both sides and have the best of both worlds ?

Looking at it again this evening, there is a strip of steel sewn inside that flap which I guess is to try and prevent the window from creasing vertically. If that is the case, it really does need to be fixed above the window. Maybe Velcro is the way to go.

Is there anywhere for each end of the steel strip to locate?

No Tony. The steel strip is completely enclosed in the fabric and sewn round all four sides. In my photo above, my finger is pushing on the strip within the fabric. I think I'll take up your suggestion of Velcro to hold it up.
While we're talking about soft tops, what proofing solution would people recommend? My top very obviously doesn't slough off the water, but lets it soak in.

I always used Autoglym on my Z3 but other types are out there. All I'm doing with my Z4, up to now, is just hoovering it when it's dry and wiping with a damp sponge when it needs cleaning after unwanted visitors.
