separating spacers

Hi - Me again, I might (definitely) have forgotten to apply a thin layer of grease between my rear wheel spacers and the brake disc/drum.

What suggestions have you got for getting the two bits to seperate?

Heat it, pops right off, even a heat gun will do it if you don't have a blow lamp.

And once you have it in 2 pieces . . . . .. Be very careful mate they split very easily especially round the raised "lip" in the centre.

Yes, they do, I use a stanley blade to twist the edge after i blow lamp it, if it's really locked on the blade should break first. Do wear glasses, flying metal and all that.
If you have any silicone grease Joss, use a little smear of that, failing that, copper or aluminium grease.
Be very careful of silicone though, don't try and clean your gloves, just throw them away. Incredibly difficult stuff to get off, but it doesn't absorb water and is a decent insulator, so you get less electrolytic corrosion if the spacers are plain alloy and left on for years.

hmmmm reminds me i must get to do this... is copper grease recommended for between alumnium and cast steel. ?

Thanks folks - approx 1 min with the blow torch and the spacers came off the drum/disc with a gentle pry of a cold chisel
