Selling or Not Selling?

2.8 is the answer, sell yours and buy a nice 2.8 before they become expensive.

Mine never fails to put a smile on my face. its not modern day rapid but more than quick enough ... it will do 100mph without even thinking about it.

the roll on from 70mph to 100mph is silly

3.0 is the holy grail of non ///M Zeds but they are priced accordingly.

M52 2.8 + M50 Manifold = 220bhp anyway which is more than enough
Thank you 5harp3y ;)

Thank you everyone for the input.

@Brian4 you are star. Guess what...I just had the codes read yesterday and there was a few old codes but one that came right after we cleared the codes was the exhaust camshaft position sensor. And I found a split in the induction hose between MAF and throttle body that I had forgotten about. Also have a sticky valve in the inlet manifold that I want to give it a clean up.
First things first I will repair this two things by the end of the month and hopefully recover a bit more performance.

Thank you.

I hope you get what you want out of it mate, I went through a similar thing with my 2.0l, I wanted something bigger and faster but to be honest I keep up with most of the other Zs on meets and mine is running really well, I am going to do the VANOS soon. If anything terminal went wrong with the engine I would probably replace it with a bigger lump.

Yes the way I see it with a car that is not that common is that if you are happy with the body work go around and replace engine for power if you can. Lets see once I fixe this bits.
Good luck with the vanos work mate.

With the air leak and the cam sensor done you will be pleasantly surprised at the sudden increase in performance.

Happy days!
Yesterday went for a proper drive and isn't that slow once you are over 4500krpm but again doing 60mph I dropped to 4th and was struggling to go up on the revs. Hopefully with this bits done will be better.

Thanks once again.

The 3.0 is not that dear. They start at £3,000
Although for a low mileage one you might need £6,000+.
l've had a 2.8 and a 3.0. The 2.8 is very nice, the 3.0 definitely has the edge but there's not a great deal in it, you won't be disappointed with a 2.8 if it's running properly (VANOS seals good) Test by doing 30-50mph in fifth and see if it matches the figures given by BMW
I had the earlier single VANOS 2.8 the later dual VANOS version had a bit more power.

I don't think you'll find a 3.0 for 3K at the moment

Minimum 5K for a 3.0

Even decent 2.8 are 3K+ now

130,000 and 'some' history

and also suspiciously left in gear whilst parked

I have always left my car in gear when it's parked. It was how I was taught when I learned to drive 40 odd years ago. Always leave it in first gear with the handbrake.
My auto cars are left in park with the handbrake on, so same thing really. On my Zed, if you don't put it in park, you can't remove the key from the ignition switch.

I too always leave my car in gear, its the norm in the motor trade.

...Handbrakes can and do fail...
Yep mine did after being parked up for a couple of minutes whilst I was taking some photos. Rolled back about 18 inches into @Bozzy, luckily just a gentle kiss so no damage.

Oh dear!

Plus of you use the car infrequently they tend to stick on

As you said,no damage done but if I'd been sat in the car I could have claimed for whiplash =)).
