Blimey makes mine seem a little insignificant!
Happy to join the small and exclusive club as it was an interesting defect to deal with! I have confirmed that the control relay was stuck in the energised state and suppling via a 50 amp fuse from a hot bus power all the time, attached is the SAP motor electrical connector. SAP motor replaced with second unit as BMW cost was to much and control relay replaced and all working now. Motor runs for 84 seconds on engine start and does now switch off.
Best regards
Dean

From my investigation the pump appears to be supplied by a 50A fuse direct from the battery and the relay is supplied by a 7.5A fuse. If the relay was stuck in an energised condition this would cause the problem. I will test the relay when I can.
Many thanks for the responses from all!
Hi, I'm currently having a problem with my S.A.P. it's not turning on upon cold start anymore. Pump is not getting power . I've replaced the relay, still no go. Could you tell me as to which fuses are associated with the pump and where exactly are they located? 2000 z3 m52tu...thank you

Should the 3.0i M54 engine have the SAP - I'm familiar with it and the location from other Z3's I've had but current one looks like this so wondering if it was previously removed or never fitted?

Mine is located where your brake reservoir is located, upper left hand corner....
Do you have a picture of its location just curious as my 99 m52 tu is located behind drivers headlight.

That's where mine was on the 2 M52TUB28's I've had - this was the last one I sold.

On the M52B28's I know the water bottle for the washers is there so it must be located somewhere else.
Just looked at the 2.2 Sport I sold and it wasn't there so wondering if they did do away with it for the M54 variants.

Blimey bit scary having your son in the car and it sounds like you took swift action. I have just ordered a small fire extinguisher for the car!
The good news is that I found relay K6304 had failed in the energised closed position and was in fact supply 12V to the pump even when the engine was switched off. It is supplied from a 50A fuse that is hot all the time and I have attached a photo showing location of the relay outside of the relay box and under a rubber cover. This is for the W reg post facelift 19i with MT43 engine,
I have ordered a pump and relay so I can put the car back to original condition. Voltage checks at the original wiring are all good so I should be able to splice into the original wiring!
Best regards

Secondary Air Pump 50amp fuse location in 2000 z3 (m52tu) took a while, but finally figured it out. Here is the location, left side of steering wheel, easy to find with test-light.20230106_111235.jpg20230106_105942.jpg20230106_111142.jpg

Neither my M54 2.2 or my M54 3.0 have had the air pump fitted. Both are 2002 models too.
Just lifted this photo from another members forum post of their X reg 3.0i - so it would appear the SAP was fitted as standard on the M54

I suppose both my cars may have come out the factory with the SAP fitted and previous owners removed them. Hard to tell TBH.

Agreed and I'm in the same position as you albeit with an engine bay no where near as clean as yours =))
I think this unused bracket it the giveaway that it's been removed.

The one I took off my 2000 Z3 2.0 was bolted to a bracket which was welded to the inner wing. That looks more like an alternative mounting for washer bottle.
