Seat Refurbishment

I used John @ http://www.bespokeleathering.com/ in Birmingham for my Z3M Seats, he refoamed the bolsters, cleaned, conditioned and recoloured both the estoril and the black they came up amazing, reaonably priced too, he leathered my door cards to match.
 
I really can't understand why anyone would not look after there seats and let them get into this sort of condition and I would be too embarrassed to sell a set of seats like that to anyone @-)

But then when you see what you have done with them and what is possible with a bit of work its always worth considering a set of seats that need work and even better if they are cheap, you may get them for a serious bargain as the seller thinks they are useless and just wants rid. But I bet if you showed them the seats now they would be feeling a little :ymsick:, especially when they find out what the seats could sell for in there refurbed conditon :D

Cheers mate that's exactly the reason I got them cheap. The bloke didn't really seem bothered about them as he was just interested in breaking the car for the engine. Even if I had them retrimmed it'd work out cheap but I thought something could be done. Just waiting on my spray gun now to get an ideal finish. B-)
 
The guy that did mine used a spray gun, so is the way to go for a good finish

They all use sprays, normally via an aerosol
They make it look easy
Mind you I get told that after I plaster a ceiling
 
They look nice zedonist are they laguna seca or estoril? They look estoril before and laguna after or just the way the lights caught them?
 
Looks like a great job. Its incentivised me to do mine before its back on the road. Luckily I already have a little touch up spray gun. Thanks for posting.

yep I too bought some Scuffmaster in Estoril blue:

I also bought a leather repair kit, slid a 'repair patch' underneath the rip, applied the glue, then held it together for 2 mins and left it for an hour.
Cleaned the leather with the cleaner from the repair kit then applied the Scuffmaster by dabbing it on with a sponge.

This was the drivers side, and was after just one coat,

Also tried to get rid of some of the sagginess in the leather with a hot air gun,

It is amazing how much abuse leather can take and keep coming up looking like new with the right product and proper application. We had a sectional that showed jean wear so I did a clean and scrub and went to the local leather supply shop for dye, clothes,etc and for the equivalent to£50 went to work. Looked like new after an hour and a half. Was water based and never noticed any wipe off. Just take a soft rag and give it a good polish. No additive!! JIM
 
I bought a respray kit from furniture clinic for my Z this week. The seats were in a right state, all hard and shiny and some cracking going on as well, but only the original paint was cracked, not the leather.

It was a bit daunting using a scourer and some pretty strong chemical to remove the factory finish, but well chuffed with the results.
I also used an hot air gun to pull out some serious sagging in the leather too.
£55 and a few hours of time well spent.

Oh, I choose the Matte finish to seal it.
 
Looks awesome from the pic. It's amazing how leather bounces back when the right product is used. Just to add, if you dampen, not wet, the leather then apply the heat carefully that leather tightens right back up like new. Lots of elbow grease needed but beats buying new covers. Nice job, JIM

I used a clothes steamer on the seats in our ML and that tighten it up like new and got all the years of grime out too.
Never thought about dampening the leather this time though.
 
Yes, the steamer is perfect, my upholsterer friend uses one all the time. Most people have a spray bottle and hair dryer though. The steamer sure does lift the dirt out of those creases even where it doesn't look dirty. JIM
 
Back in the day cloth type head linings were stretched by boiling a kettle inside the closed car.
