Does anyone know if the seat adjustment motors are not working it would be an MOT fail?

The seat is in the perfect position for me, but I need to do the MOT soon.

I'm guessing water has got in through the window and shorted the motor....

@Zag2 I just had a quick look online :-

2.7 Seats
These will be inspected to check that:
  • the driver’s seat can be adjusted
  • all seats are securely fitted and that seat backs can be fixed in the upright position

Passenger seat is tested if the seatbelt anchor is fixed to the seat frame. It then becomes part of the seat belt and is tested for security and corrosion within 30 cm of mountings (does not include outer sill which is classified as “bodywork”)

If it’s make a clicking noise/you can here it shuddering then the mechanism/runner is likely to be seized (probably rusted solid due to a leak somewhere) or there is something (like a coin) stuck blocking the runner.

If it does nothing then either the motor is dead or the button/switch is broken.

Might be a fuse or something, but not something I’d heard of.

Easy to swap the motor in situ if the seat raises to (or is in) its highest position

Before you do anything drastic try tapping the motor(s) with a small hammer whilst operating the switches, you may get a pleasant surprise.

Speaking of MOT's my 1 series just failed with a fluctuating front brake, and a discoloured rear indicator lamp.
The brakes had been juddering slightly for about 2 months now, so I have today fitted new front discs and pads, and the juddering has gone, though I suspect it more to have been that the pads were binding. Caliper was free.

Anyways what has annoyed me is the advisories he gave,

  • Front anti roll bar links different types on same axle
  • Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
when i asked about them he said the links are fine, just different manufacturers...
and the rear tyre had "only 3mm"

I don't mind it being something I need to change soon, however "different manufacturers but they are fine"?
and 3mm is almost twice the legal limit.

when it does pass if I left these, it just stains an otherwise healthy report, so I have ordered new drop links :bashhead:

I totally agree Pete, it annoys me immensely when people put crap like this on test certificate, and it is crap. There is no need for the drop link comment what so ever, and the tyre is stretching it too.
If you had had different makes of tyre fitted would he/she have advised that too?
I have to replace the front discs and pads on the oil burner too at some point, also I suspect a hum from a rear wheel bearing which I couldn't isolate last year when I did the rear discs and pads so I guess I'll have to crank up the hearing aid, ................ Pardon?

I always take all of my cars to the local council run place for MOTs. They only fail them when they genuinely are a fail (they're not looking for work to keep their garage busy) and they don't put stupid things on the certificate. In fact the "advisories" I have had in the past have all been delivered verbally to me & I've been invited to look under the car at what they want me to address, then nothing is actually recorded on he certificate.

Passed the MOT with no mention of seats not moving!!

I had a feeling it would as I googled it beforehand and saw a few MOT testers saying they don't fail them.

It did have a problem with the washer fluid being inadequate, but blowing air though them after sticking a pin in fixed that! All MOT'd for another year.

To be honest I didn’t understand the inclusion of the drivers seat needing to move forward and backwards. After all the MOT is all based on the condition of the vehicle at the time of the test, (it says so on the certificate) and if the seat is set correctly for the presenter of the vehicle at the time of test, then it should pass.
