New to the Z3 - is roughly 3" of forward travel on the seat back normal?
OR
Should it jump forward a foot or so?
Back of seat NOT the seat/tracks.
Thanks

I don't think so if I understand what you are explaining correctly. BMW seats move like most vehicle car seats, hope that helps.

Whew - I didn't think this would be this hard.
What is supposed to happen when you pull this lever?
The BACK OF THE SEAT should tilt forward about:
4"
6"
8"
12"
Jump forward until it almost hits the dash?

I'm struggling to figure out why they bothered to add that function/lever when the seat back moves all of what 4"
You get far more "behind the seat" access by running the entire seat forward on the rails.

Not trying to state the obvious, but how far it springs forward depends on how far it was reclined first! I can't give you any numbers but at it's fully sprung forward position it is uncomfortably upright for me.

My driving position is with the seat maybe an inch forward from the rear-most position and then reclined as far back as it will go into the rear bulkhead. I'm 5'11" and that's the most comfortable position I have settled on.

if your seat is all the way back (or nearly all the way back) then there physically isn't enough space for the seat-back to recline far (or even at all)

100% seriously - thanks for stating the obvious - I was only thinking about it in relationship to behind the seat access not driving position.
Like I said, new to the Z3 and I was trying to check out what was behind the seat and expected the back to jump forward like a modern car would.
My Bad!

It is spring loaded to go forward, but not by that much. You’re right, if you need access behind the seat, it’s much easier to run it forward on the rails. On my drivers seat, the lever is also a bit difficult to operate because the side of the seat has lost its shape a bit and fouls the lever in its pulled position.

Ah yeah I understand what you were getting at now 🙂

In the Z3 the seat is a significant part of the roll-over protection, so maybe that is another reason why they don't fold all the way forward too. I guess that hinge mechanism has to be pretty strong - not that I ever plan on testing it! 😬
