Well after hours of head scratching & taking it apart & putting back together again I'm still at square one with no way of getting rid of the slack in the Bowden cable so the seat backs are never going to adjust, starting to think the actual mechanism is either broken or jammed on one side now as it doesn't fully open when the lever is in the down position like the other side, both seats have the exact same problem??

The loop of the wire loops over the slotted grove in the lever so that when you pull the lever it pulls equally on both sides to release the mechanism

I realised that I have fitted it back over the slotted groove after it came off & it has too much slack with it fitted
