This wonderful and historic event is under threat by Brighton City Council (Green as cabbages) taking advantage of the tragic death of a competitor in the 2012 event. No spectators were hurt nor were any ever likely to be, and entrants compete in full knowledge of the risks. The Council is shamelessly cashing in on the accident last year. Please sign - many a BMW competes in this, perhaps even members of this forum.
 
As a Brightonian I support this 100%. The speed trails have been on the front from decades, and Madeira Drive was originally extended to make a race track. It's history, don't let the loopy green idiots destroy history for political principle. Also cars going fast are fun.
 
Thanks DBZ! I love Brighton and this event is one of the quirky things that make it what it is; a unique place. As for health and safety, look to the cyclists on the footpaths and the piles of dog dirt everywhere! The Speed Trials are not going to hurt a spectator and the competitors know and accept the risks, few as they are.
