I use both Garmin and Tom Tom. The Garmin is a 3490LMT (life time maps and traffic) and a Top of the range Tom Tom truck nav which is work issue. For me they both have there issues.
I find the maps when being followed a lot clearer on the Tom Tom but it's very slow to react when giving instructions, say off an island. The Garmin as Bill has said has the itinerary planning which is the reason I bought it but I find its more of a birds eye view so not so clear to look at. No new Tom Tom have the itinary feature. I don't like the new program either on the Tom Tom. They have tried to make it like a smart phone and for me it doesn't work. I haven't used any of the Chinese ones based on tablets but a number of work mates have them for the trucks and say they are cracking value for money.

That idea would appeal to me Dave as the Nav in my Touareg had a fairly large screen which, for me, made it easier to follow. I wouldn't want iPad size but an 8" tablet on a stand type holder would work for me. I could even adapt one to fit on the screen in my Z4. If I could find a HUD type Nav I would consider that too.

Tony.

EBay is full of them @t-tony. There very cheap but they appear to be pretty good value. Worth a punt?

I had a TomTom for years and changed over to a Garmin, less road detail in the Garmin, I live just off the road up a track and according to my Garmin the address did not exist, the Garmin would also reboot just as I was coming in to a complicated route or nearing the final destination. Needless to say I am back with a TomTom but this has its issues too (needs more memory to enable a map upgrade!), but for me I understand how the TomTom works/calculates its routes. I have free lifetime maps and got Europe thrown in too.

I bought a cheap one off Ebay for £45 about 3yrs ago. It has a 7" screen which blocks most of my windscreen, but it's always got me where I wanted to go.

I'm home now, only had a couple of beers, I'm not a big drinker to be honest. It's in my works van so I'll go and get it.

It's a 7" screen tablet with a box of different mounting adapters a couple of charging leads. It comes with lifetime map upgrades and is called Pnav.

The screen saver plastic film thing is lifting a bit, but the screen is very clear.

Excellent, thank you mate. I assume that it's touch screen operation too. You happy with it?

Tony.
