Today I did a deal to sell my old Merc 230ce as part exchange for a nice, well I like them anyway, =)) 2006 Honda Accord, 2ltr V tech, fully loaded, one owner, full Honda history and only 42k miles. She should last me for the rest of my driving days, alongside my two Zeds.

I was quoted £3.5k to £4k to fit 2 new wings and respray the Merc and as much as I loved her I couldn't get myself to spend that much money on her:(

I was out and about in deepest Hampshire and I saw the Honda on a garage forecourt, stopped to have a closer look, took her for a test run and decided to buy her.

I'm picking her up next week

I know an excellent bodywork specialist - Dragon Resprays. Keith, whose business it is, is very approachable and really knows his stuff. Chat to him and see what he thinks in terms of what you want doing and a price on the Merc. PM me for contact details.

Thanks, but I've done the deal now

So does it cut the grass too :p

Sorry to hear the Merc is going but good luck with the rice grinder.

Glad to hear you’ve got something your happy with Jack, I like the Honda’s too. Wish the wife did as that would be in place of our Fiat 500x, but at my age I should think myself lucky I’ve got a coupe that I’ve always believed I’d never have. Yes it’s come late but better etc.
Good luck with it Jack you deserve something after what you’ve been through recently.

Roy;)

There was a guy used to come in where I used to work with 1985 Merc. 280sl and the front wings needed repairing 16 years ago and he kept putting it off. Now they need replacing and he can't afford to do it.

Sad mate but the V-TECs are legendary engines, the absolute definition of NAILS!

Shame about the Merc but needs must and all that

Ive owned a fair few Honda's over the years and in my experience Honda's are really good (& very reliable) cars.

They aren't terribly exciting though unless you're in a Type R

Happy motoring in the Accord Jack

I had a Honda before the z3, a 2.2 vtec, great car too, never went wrong, the vtec but is fun too, a bit like an old LC going into 6000rpm mode

We used to run a fleet of Honda's for our company cars and they were hammered by our reps and never had any problems what so ever. Build quality is up there with the best of them and before I found the Honda I looked a few Passat's, Mondeo's, 3 series Beemers and the Accord was the best value for my hard earned cash.
A Beemer or Passat, with full spec and 40k miles would have cost me more than twice the price and considering I'm only going to drive it at weekends when I'm home it's a no brainer.

All era's come to an end and we move on. Enjoy your new purchase and getting to grips with newer technology.

Had a few Hondas myself. Civic Coupe (first new car) and a couple of Accords. Ex had a Civic hatchback from new.
As above IMO unless it is a Type R or NSX :D they're quite ordinary but extremely competent.
