Right, then...

Finally got around to doing a brake refresh and the rotors are rusted to the hubs. Cleaning up the rust and soaking them with liquid wrench didn't work. Neither did the hammer. Or the bigger hammer. So, off to the indy shop to get the work done. A little disappointing, but that's the way it goes considering the low purchase price, I think. Now, a drink.

That’s very unusual they are that solid. Stuck and needing a tap yes but not that solid.

Did you hit from behind? All the workshop are likely to do is carry on whacking to get it off.

And you did remove the small Allen bolt? I got pretty peed off once with a disc only to find I hadn’t removed the bolt...

Yes, got the Allen bolt and made sure the E brake was off, hit from both sides. Mind, this car sat dormant for 2-3 years outside, so I wonder if the lack of movement contributed to this. I did some YouTubing and some guys were using gear pullers, hammer and torches...one guy worked on one for 5 hours, so I guess there can be extreme cases.

Alls well, though. While I wanted to do this myself, I imagine the Indy shops in the Bay Area are hurting for business, so I’m glad to be helping out in that aspect.

Don't forget you may have damaged or distorted the disc by whacking it. So careful with the drive to the workshop.

I had the same thing. I just a bit of penetrating fluid .. tried to get between the face of the hub and that of the rotor . Left it for a while and used a rubber mallet to "tap" the rotor face.

Going by the fact you have said you released the ' e brake ' hand brake here in UK.
Did you also de - adjust the shoes right off as if the discs are worn there will be a lip inside which will make it difficult to remove
Also care needs to be taken not to rip the shoes off the backing plate.

Stephen.

Missed that one. Assumed it was the front for some reason.

I've never been beaten by a rear disc but in the past I have had to split the front disc with an angle grinder on various Fiat cars and some old Mondeos. I suspect you didn't use a big enough hammer though.;)

I hadn’t. I figured that since the rotor was spinning freely and there was zero lateral movement (and that the E brake was off) it was not a factor. If I get a chance tomorrow, I might take another crack at it...

You’ll need to look that one up how to slacken off as it’s easier to see in pictures. It’s a bit fiddly and involves sticking a screwdriver in through a hole and spinning an adjusting wheel in the correct direction.
