Hi all, my zed (2.8) has started to run a little rough when idling. No movement on the Rev counter but feels lumpy when stationary. Can't really say much more, just doesn't feel right.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
Dave

When you draw away in the car Dave @Grumpy, does the engine feel like it's going to stall? if so it might be a camshaft sensor playing up. Another thing you might check is for a leak in the inlet plastic tubing. Failing those when was the last time you changed your spark plugs?

Reggie's protesting against becoming your daily transport.....he's not feeling special any more :(.
Surely it's got to be something simple Dave like a split/perished breather pipe perhaps.
Hope you get it sorted soon mate ;).

Engine bay rubber components always worth a look Dave. A cam sensor will eventually put the EM light on, not always straight away, mine didn't.

Tony.

Thanks chaps. @EnthuZiaZT Mike, it had a major service last june/July time Inc plugs. It doesn't want to stall at all, idling or pulling away.
I've had the bonnet up @t-tony and had a listen for any unusual sucking noises caused by a split anywhere and can't here anything untoward but obviously this doesn't mean there isn't anything.
@Bozzy, I think you've hit the nail on the head, he needs to be cherished to the end!

It's hard to explain what's happening. Like I said, the Rev counter doesn't move out of the ordinary, it powers away as it should, you can just feel a lumpy feeling inside the cabin.

try cleaning the inside of the throttle body, in particular around where the butterfly seats. If you look into a throttle body, you will notice a band that is machined much more acurately where the butterfly closes. Any amount of residue building up in that area will cause disturbed airflow at idle and cause rough running.

Proper way is by removing the throttle assembly from the car so you can get at the "engine" side of the butterfly, but you can do it in-situ. If you remove the elbow between the throttle body and the airflow meter and hold the throttle open, you can still clean through about 90% of it. Use a rag wrapped around finger and petrol, nothing more is needed, don't use anything metallic, you may scratch the machined face.

Not saying it will fix it, but I've cured quite a few BMW's and a 911 with just this.

I haven't Bill. If a simple fix isn't found in the next few days I'll get back in touch if that's OK. Thanks mate

Do you know what a bonnet is if so open it up and to your right hand side you will see a fairly large black box called an air filter coming off this will be a hose which is connected to a housing which houses the Maf coming off this will be another hose, that is the one to check If you are still confused between all on .org we will draw you a map =))

Arghh right yes! I am aware what the air filter housing is. I don't have one tho as it has a K&N on it. Still doesn't answer what a MAF is tho?

Agreed the hot wire in the MAF doesn't like oil on it.
