Roof woes

So , the car came with an ok roof, but knackered window. The seller sent the original window and zip to be redone with new plastic so it would (should) be a straight swap.

I also bought one of those ones from eBay Germany, with a lovely video guide on how easy it is to refit.

So after a few frustrating attempts I couldn't even get either window/zip close, so have taken car to a recommended local auto trimmers.

Neither window will fit!! New one is too small as original roof must have shrunk/stretched, and the refurb one is a bad stitch job and they can't get zip slider round it.

Other than throwing more money after bad, do any of you guys have some advice?

Thanks.

I have a complete nearly new Jack Smith roof/window for £175. PM me if interested.

I am a long way from you though and you would need to collect it.

Otherwise I would go to a soft top specialist who should be able to resolve for round £150 as long as your roof is good and doesn't need stitching. That might add around £50-£75 to resolve and is a common issue. Soft Tops of Coventry will certainly do this for you for these prices.

Could I ask, would it easier to replace the whole thing, so a good one that's still on the original frame etc.

So it's remove the old complete one and replace! If that makes sense?

Recently replaced the whole roof inc frame with one from @spurs fan in a coupe who actually fitted it for me with my limited help. Took us around 3 hours inc cleaning all the old sealant off which is an incredibly messy job. Not difficult to do though so I'd certainly consider it.

Thanks mate. I love it with the blue roof but appreciate it won't be everyone's taste.
As for the on lookers..............

I’m not being particularly helpful, however... will you be parting with any of the windows you’ve tried fitting?

Yes, more than likely. Will have a better idea after tomorrow, I'm away to look at a whole roof that maybe quicker and easier to swap over.

Sorry to say the roof for sale was complete, but not really in any better condition than mine, other than having a window stitched in.

So, back to square one on that. :(

Finally some good news.

Called yet another local trimmer, who admittedly I had already spoken to.

Said bring car asap and he'd done the window this afternoon. Used the "refurbed" one using the original zip, the one from ebay/germany is too small, so is awaiting return.

:whistle::whistle::thumbsup:
