Roof Stuck

The retractable electric roof (hard top) on my 2011 Z4 is stuck halfway down and I can hear the motor trying to work, but nothing happens. I don't think any water has got into the boot. Before this happened, the passenger window would not close to the top without going down a couple of inches again.

A decent BMW specific code reader will show the fault (s) of which there are more than one that could be causing it..most probable are the relevant micro switches..it’s a job for relatively skilled folks..where are you based ?

The Zed Shed up near Liverpool is your best bet IMHO…he’s very au fist with E89 roof issues and reasonable rates..

There is no manual override on E89s

You'd think there would be, wouldn't you? Looks like I'll have to go to the BMW garage on a dry day and let them put it on their diagnostic (I'm told they are better than the normal diagnostic machines). Perhaps they can get the roof down manually too. I didn't want to take the car to BMW for obvious reasons.

Good job I have a garage which I just managed to get into.

The problem started when the passenger side window would not go to the top without jumping back about 3 ins. Would this suggest that the problem is on the passenger side?

Without a decent code reader nobody knows

So many sensors switches and interlocks it’s impossible to guess.

Thank you for letting me join this forum and apply for hijacking this post but I'd appreciate if anyone can tell me of a roof specialist in the Edinburgh area as I am also reluctant to take it to BMW. It's a 2014 Z4. The roof won't go down probably as a result of water ingress as I had to drain about 4 inches of water from the boot. I've tried replacing the roof motor and a couple of relay switches which were sitting in the water but this has not solved the problem. Any suggestions please?
