Hello folks,
New guy here. My story is I owned a 2000 Mazda miata SE for 14 years. Bought her brand new. However, due to finanical issues I had to sell her in 2015.

Now I am semiretired. Intitally I was thinking about another Maita. Also BMW Z4. But thinking about it I really like the body style of the Z3.

So Iam intrested in a manual 2.8 model. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Rich

Hi and welcome from me near Lincoln,UK. A 2.8 manual Z3 is a great car although mine is a 3.0 Z4. I too started with a Mazda, a 1990 Eunos.
You're another new US member from the northeast.

Tony.

Hi Rich welcome to the forum. I've got both Z3 2.8 manual and auto and both are great cars. The manual can be a bit of a hooligan if you thrash it and the auto can be the perfect gentleman. Depends what mood I'm in

Thank you to all for making me feel welcomed.

First let me apologize for the english units, miles, and USA dollar references as many of you are located in Europe.

Currently I am just searching the inventory of used Z3s here in the US. I have been using the Carguru site to look for available models. Most are in the 1998 to 2002 year range. Lots of variables in mileage and models.

I was thinking of a model with less than 70,000 miles and less than 3 previous owners.

My Maita had a 6 speed manual. Loved that. She could take corners and what fun! So manual is on my list. Most are 5 speeds from what I am seeing.

My thinking for use is for sunny warm days and weekends. Not an every day runner.

As for models I was thinking 2.8 because of the higher horsepower range. Not sure about the 3.0 as there are fewer of those. About 8 months ago I saw a M model, blue, with 28,000 miles. I think a 1998 model. I believe they were asking 22,000 uusa. Beatutful car.

So not to overwhelm you folks but just putting so thought out there in the event you might have any comments or recommendations.

Thank you
Rich

Hi and welcome, Had a Mazda MX5 and they are super little sport cars, but sadly here in the UK the weather eats them!! They just rust everywhere. I had a Z3 2.8 and wish I'd never sold it. Not as nimble as the Mazda and the gearbox is not as sweet, but other than that a much better car. Plus the Z3 is a great looking car.

hey Rich, I am in Canton Ohio and I have a 97 2.8 5 speed that I purchased from my boss over your way. I am working with a woman right now that is considering selling her 98 2.8 5 sp one owner with 43000 miles on it. I thin it can be purchased for about 11000. Ill try to talk her into moving on it now and get you some pictures.

:welcome: Go for a good 2.8, you won't be disappointed. Road tested 0 - 60mph 6.7 secs. 60 - 0mph 2.6secs. Top speed !34 mph. :coolsteer)
Lots of lovely low down torque. I think all 2.8 cars had an L.S.D. Make sure you thoroughly check, inspect and test drive for 20 minutes a potential purchase. Items and points to check available on this and other Z3 forums. Best of luck.
