To test with I used the horn relay out of my car, which obviously stopped the horn from working but the heated seats did work.
Love it, I can now check my seats tomorrow, great tip pal

Which pads did you get if you have the information handy please?
I don't have the details as my ebay account got hacked but they where from China, they where the type you can cut to fit. Think I got the link of @Antm72

I do have a set at work that I might be selling if the ones in my M seats are OK, I'll know soon

Excellent, I'm glad you got it working. Mine will need taking apart soon to fit after market pads as one of the OE pad keep breaking. Shouldn't be too difficult a task, probably a job for the winter though.
I have finally gotten around to doing this @MRH1966 just wanted to know if these are the aftermarket pads you bought and whether you kept the fuse that came with it. :)

That looks like the set I got for mine last year, the original seat base part broke, again, and the backrest part never worked all the time I've had the car. Those pads worked wonderfully, so nice to have a warm back (too many years working as a mechanic). Instead of messing around with the hog-rings I used a bunch of cable ties to keep the seat cover in placewhere it sinks into the base, just need to get them the right way round to be able to cut the tails off.

I had one job :banghead:

I cut the pads trying to replicate the original (so I could get the zip ties in) as I thought it would be ok based on the documentation supplied with it but have no continuity now!

I used the same mats in my Z4 seats and cut them as in the first picture of the fitting instructions, I used Hog Rings when fitting them into the seats. I note that the instructions say DO NOT cut down the width of the pads or it will damage the elements, think that may be your problem as yo have removed sections affecting the width.

I think @colb may be right. When connecting it to a battery the lower portion does heat up but the top half of the heating pad remains cool. I suspect that cutting it width wise has done some damage.
