I need some help getting these heated seats to work!

I've installed pads into seat no problems, I've installed the switches into car wiring.

the pads are universal ones each with 2 wires, 1 red 1 black coming from back and bottom pad. I've located the wiring plug which has 2 browns 2 striped whites. I've wired the browns as earths to the 2 black cables on the pads, then each red to separate striped cable. I figured the 4 cables on the BMW side were live for back and live for bottom and 2 earths.

I've heard there may be a relay needed for the heated seats in the prefacelift fusebox, can some one confirm this, have I done something wrong as the switches don't light up when pressed aswell as no heat.

Thanks!

Yes there is a relay that you will need to fit in your fusebox if your car didn't come with heated seats as standard.

That's the same as my one (facelift) we swapped that one from my car and it didnt work. I heard it may be a pink-ish relay...though I don't know what the part no is.

Spurs fan has some, but he is asking for me to be specific.

To test with I used the horn relay out of my car, which obviously stopped the horn from working but the heated seats did work.

@MRH1966 , I have done the same heated seat retrofit on mine, and the relay is part number 61368373700.
It was £15.14 from Chandlers BMW in Rustington.

Thats where it goes!!!

This shows the connections from the two Fuses to the relay if you need to check continuity.

Hope this helps

Just in case it helps if you have a pre-facelift the resistance that you need to see on the pads when not connected is around 5 ohms for each pad - maybe the after market pads are not putting the right load on the circuit and it does not work as supposed. Let me know how it works I am curious about the aftermarket pads.

I used after market pads in my last Z and they where better then OEM, heated up quicker and slightly warmer

Excellent, I'm glad you got it working. Mine will need taking apart soon to fit after market pads as one of the OE pad keep breaking. Shouldn't be too difficult a task, probably a job for the winter though.
