Long story, but my wife recently got given this by my oldest mate. Bit different to a bunch of flowers....
Last tax disc was 1980. An hour's tinkering got it running. She decided that she wanted it kept as original as possible so I just stripped it, cleaned it and replaced the perishables like cables and tubes/tyres. Takes you back to a time when 30mph was quite enough....

Love it, I really enjoy bringing life back to old things, I am planning retiring when I am 55 in just over 2 years and I will be in serious need of a project

And in serious need of a good workshop mate. Just saying

Tony..

I had a guy in today that was looking at the z3, he was really impressed with the seats and showed lots of interest in the leather, he then asked if I was prepared to do a set of MGC seats, we agreed that I will do them once that Z is out of the way  I would love a nice big work shop at home

Mate, the skills you have could earn you a serious amount of money, no doubt.

Likewise pal, your mechanical skills will se you through retirement, you just need a bigger garage with a shower ;)

Cool, look very like a Raleigh Runabout to me.

I had one of those, horrid piece of carp, my mate had an NSU Quickly, those were great little machines. My Raleigh was soon nicknamed the Raleigh Pushabout

How did you manage to make it go 30mph? Like mine, down hill with a back wind?=))=)) and I only weighed half what I do now:arghh:=))

Tony.

Did you not use a helmet to reduce drag ?

:D

Yeah, bright yellow (could've been Dakar) and a Peak too mate. We rode from Gainsborough to Torksey Lock one night in freezing fog, must've been radio rental. Got back into town to my mates house and soon after I set off home across town, guess what?, it f***ing broke down AGAIN !! and I had to push it home.:arghh::arghh::arghh:

:thumbsup:Finally what a nice thread! I was feeling weird with my late passion for mopeds!:D
I started 4 years ago with a Simson SR2E, given to me as a gift by my best friend. Now I have 16! I started to understand the word "compulsive collector"!
;)And three of them (fresh resprayed) are waiting the "assembly line" prepared indoor, for the Winter season.:)
Keeping it original is the best choice. Patina worth more than any perfect restoration!

It's got the continuously variable transmission that alledgedly made it quicker than the normal Runabout. Mind you, I'm sure it won't make 30 with my fat body on it.....
