With remembrance Sunday being tomorrow I thought I'd ask who attends any memorials locally to them?

Being ex forces I always try to go if I can, this year being no exception.
Think I'm going to go to a different one though closer to home.
This year also marks 1 year of losing a very close family member so it will be an extra special one.

Anyway I best get polishing my medals and my grandfather's medals. Or I might make Kate do it.

Here's a treat for you all, 2009 after passing out parade with my very proud late Gran :)
And my suit for her funeral with mine and her husband's medals <3

I will be. And good grief, that uniform brings back memories! Passed out of Raleigh in '92. Still seems like yesterday!

We will be attending the Remembrance Service tomorrow at our church. We've been to our village church, (Church of Saint Probus and Saint Grace) this morning to see the exhibition fellow villagers have organised to remember other villagers who have played their part in the many conflicts our country has been involved in.
I felt honoured to read about one of our villagers who fought in the Second Boer War 1899-1902 and in the Great War 1914-1918 and survived both to return to the village and live a good long life and there are others who didn't survive the first few weeks of the Great War.
Our village has built a new memorial to highlight the centenary of the end of the Great War and it will be blessed prior to tomorrows Remembrance Service.

We're going down to Gorleston beach memorial tomorrow :p
Theirs going to be sand arts made to do with the First World War , and when the tide comes in they will be washed away , like the men were :(
It will be a emotional day .......
My mums uncle who was only 21 at the time got shot down with two friends a day after the war was over , by a sniper , he is buried in France .....
Hopefully next year we're going to go to France to see where he's buried, my mum has been before.
In Great Yarmouth last week their were Perspex statues of the British soldiers to honour them , less that 48 hours vandals had destroyed them , how disrespectful is that , it makes me so angry.

Honouring the sacrifices of our ancestors is the only way to have a future.
Everything starts and ends from and with respect.

Some good stories! When you read into the wars it's amazing to hear how people ever returned at all. Especially WW1!
I like the idea of the sand sculptures, we should do that here in Sunderland

It’s just a pity more do not remember the fallen. The Dutch Run when we stopped at Ypres on the way back for the evening ceremony at the gate will, ever stick in my mind.

Hope to see a few of you at another Help For Hero’s event next year too.

When us Zed lot went to East Kirkby Airfield there was a reunion of people based there in the war going on. So interesting to listen to their stories, one guy burnt bailing out of his lanc on fire. I asked if he goes into schools and recounts his experiences which he said he does. We have the National Memorial Arboretum just down the road from the farm.

Here's a few photo's from there a couple of years ago.

Went to football match today for my son's team Stockton Town FC and the 2 minutes silence was impeccably observed by all ages in the crowd (also the queue of people waiting to go through the turnstiles) with great round of applause afterwards.

@Davyhoogy

I noticed your Grandfather served in Korea. We visited the Korean War Memorial and National Cemetery in Seoul to remember all those who took part, including the 1108 British and Commonwealth Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen who died.

As a serving member of HM Forces, it was sombre in many respects. However, we have Korean family and when you talk to them and their friends the Servicemen from the UK who took part are fondly and respectfully remembered. Any veterans who visit are treated as VIPs.

Nice to have plenty staff on this morning so a ward sorted in time for remembrance. Have had the privilege looking after lots of veterans during my career have to remind some people now and again you don’t know what that person has done during the early years...

The BMWNECC had its AGM today held at Frost Van Centre as our usual place, Champs, closed for renovation. Greg and Adam Frost who hosted the meeting place for us kindly left the radio on so we observe the 2 minutes silence and the last post. Again fully observed by all present.

We attended the local remembarance parade this morning.
My wife has been in the forces now for 23 years and seen many places and many things. For a small mining village its always well attended as those lost are remebered. A few pics from today...

The local church had a cascade of poppies from its roof ...

This may be her last year as many years of living out of a bag has nearly come to an end and a home life she longs for is now in sight......:)
