I was talking to a mate today who was telling me about a rusty nut or bolt release agent that he had heard about.

If you dilute Automatic Transmission Fluid 50% with Acetone 50%, apparently, this solution will free off any rusty nuts bolts. I assume you could put it in a hand sprayer.

Anyone ever heard of this?? Wonder how good it would be. This would be a use for old diff oil if it works.

Yes- I was chatting with a guy in work about how changing the oil in my manual box with ATF made such a difference to the notchiness. He’s really into car mechanics, traction engines etc. Really knows his stuff -explained it was because ATF is so much thinner - then said that in fact a 50:50 mix of ATF : acetone is “the best penetrating fluid known to man” (Fnaar Fnaar)
I’ve got 1/4 litre of ATF left over, so just need to raid SWMBO’s make up bag for some nail varnish remover. Going to try it on some super-corroded exhaust bracket bolts...
