Just been catching up on this, sorry to still hear they haven't got back to you yet Dave but great to hear of all the offers of help you've received. It's what makes this forum great. Best of luck
It really is appreciated mate but I don't want to touch it until have battled it out with them. If they don't do it then I'll be talking to you about having the bumper done anyway if you'd want the job.Ok mate, no worries, means I can get my seats fitted now , I was actually looking forward to getting it gleaming again.
Thanks Dave. I really don't expect them to come back with much but worth a shot. I do feel really let down by the original painters tho. Never paid out for a full respray and this is what I end up with but Sean thinks by the pics it will come back up hopefully. That'll just leave me to pay out for the bumper which isn't so bad although still sucks!Just been catching up on this, sorry to still hear they haven't got back to you yet Dave but great to hear of all the offers of help you've received. Thanks. Yep no work by the generous forum members will commence until I know exactly where the land lies.Just caught up with this one Dave. Keep pushing to get the firm to rectify the problem even if strictly they may have little liability for it.
Measuring the thickness of individual paint layers over re-sprayed steel panels accurately would be extremely difficult, over plastics virtually impossible. There are ways to do it but they are destructive and not worth considering for your circumstances. I would rely on the visual assessment of one of our paint experts and their advice on how to rectify it. Hopefully it will be possible to improve the appearance by polishing. I would hold off polishing until you decide that rectification is not an option.
I started out explaining how paint dry film thickness is measured and after 5 lines realised that I had covered about 10% and it added nothing to resolving your problem, so deleted it and "cut to the chase".
Thanks a lot for the offer Russ, Bill is coming to mine to do it with me as he lives locally. If you can get it to my unit I will polish a Panel after checking what's what. @billz knows what can be achieved by the right combination.
Last thing you want to do is paint it again.
Correct, we like France, we've brought the van over, 1st time over here with it. Had a great week, here is the view from where I'm sitting right now:Looking at your flag I take it your back in France mate. Can't keep up with you this year! Think you ort to invest a few quid and buy yourselves a holiday pad
None at all, apart from the tolls being about 50% more than with just the carLovely view mate. No problem with towing abroad? Did you know I like France!
Never went far down with the van so I wouldn't have known to be honest mate.None at all, apart from the tolls being about 50% more than with just the car
So they should, bloody Gippos....None at all, apart from the tolls being about 50% more than with just the car
We'll at least they're prepared to look into it, fingers crossed they will see you right.Right we need to stop it now. This thread (my thread) has gone .
And while I'm at it, I received an update from customer services saying everything has gone to the owners who are looking into if they are responsible or not through buyout. They are getting back to me next week.
To be honest short one I'm not overly patient but what can I do? I can't go screaming and threatening them as they didn't do the work in the first place. I'm playing the "let's be nice" game so we will see what happens. I'm not confident but who knows.Good luck @Grumpy,been following the thread and I'd be a bit fed up as well mate if it was me .
Seems you're more patient than me as well .
So good to see all the offers of help from the kind folk on here .
Something unfortunately i can't help with though .
Steve
Well see Jim. I'm going to give them till the end of Wednesday to come back either way and go from there. I've had very kind offers off some forum members to get the rest of the car back up but I may end up paying to get the bumper painted. I also have a couple of small dents in the top centre of the boot lid to get out.I agree Dave! Baby steps and courtesy go a long way! JIM
