I noticed the other day what I thought was a fairly large scratch on the top of the rear bumper. Couldn't understand where it had come from as I'm very careful about putting stuff in the boot, where I park etc. On closer inspection there appears to be several similar marks on the rear bumper. It would appear that the paint is failing on this panel only for some reason. Only had a full respray done 2 1/2 years ago so don't expect this to happen. Would you say i should approach the spray shop about it or is it to far gone now to have a grump about it. Pretty annoyed as for me getting the car painted was a lot of money.:mad::mad:

Looks to me like someone has hit you up the ass and deformed the plastic and cracked the paint.

That would make sense, if the bumper has flexed and cracked the paint, but there ought to be a scuff mark from some kind of impact I would've thought
@Sean d might have an idea Dave?

It could one of a few things, but personally I think it may well have had a repair in the past and the filler is failing due to hair line cracks in the plastic itself, it could also be that the primer is failing, it may be a high build primer that can't cope with the expansion and contraction of the plastic, its not the paint in my opinion, unfortunately mate it will need to be taken back to the affected layer

When you got your respray done was it done by a proper bodyshop and if so does the job have a warranty period.
In 2009 my seat alhambra got badly damaged down passenger side repaired by insurance but bodyshop gave a 5 yr warranty on repair and paint

There is no evidence of it bring hit Mike. No scuffs and the marks are in different places along the bumper, there is no consistency with an impact.

It was a proper crash repair shop that did it but I know the owner from years back as I used to be in the motor trade. They'd be no Warranty as he did it between jobs over the winter period for me.

I'd go back to the body shop and get them to take a look @Grumpy :p
You never know what they will say unless you ask ;)

Could well be an old injury that's come back to haunt. A small tap might have disturbed an old repair underneath the prep work for your re-spray a few years ago. Always a risk if you don't know the full history. Unlikely to be the re-spray itself I would have thought but still ask anyway. That's real bad luck. :(

It's worth going back to them and asking the question if anything can be done as it's within the basic 3-year warranty period for quality paint jobs. Good luck!

I bet your gutted Dave after all the work you have put in to it. Lets hope you get it repaired soon. I would imagine if you do have to pay for it you will be looking around £250. If you can take it back yourself this will save on labour and make it a fair bit cheaper

I agree with everybody else mate, take it back and ask them to have a look, be nice though after all it has been over 2 years, we would charge around £175

Yeah I am a bit Bill. Seems to be one thing after another at the minute but when you take an old car on maintaining it is par of course. This however looks to just be poor workmanship which is annoying.
