I'm now starting to think about getting shot of the Zed. I just seem to be having a constant run of problems now. Had no trouble for 3 years and now it's becoming almost daily!
My rev counter is now playing the goat, last twice I've started it it's not kicked in.Turned it off and on again and still nothing, then half way home it suddenly kicked in. I don't want to sell but it's starting to get me down and as we want to start doing trips abroad I'm starting to loose trust in it.

Mate I'm sorry to hear your news. I was getting a bit like that thinking will I ever get it sorted, then @NODZED changed my gear box and diff oils followed by the replacement bonnet and that has help to lift my sprit.
Hope you manage to sort Reggie out soon Dave

Keep the faith Dave, Sure things will settle down.
Just think back if you had bought an MG, it would have been daily issues and you would never had dreamt of taking it abroad

Like you have said tho Dave trouble free for 3 years but now it is asking for help to sustain its life. All cars as you know have a period of going wrong but once the issues are sorted i am sure she will behave again. Like any female needs constant pampering or will bite you

The paint job is easily fixed, hopefully at a reduced price or less. The instrument cluster rev counter may have a poor earth or possibly a board needs replacing. My instrument cluster temporarily stopped working for a day, came back on the following day, and has been ok since - weird. Stay with it and fix the run of minor problems. Good luck!

My speedo does this every once in a while Dave. A tap on the glass gets it back on track. Give it a try, may be nothing to panic about, JIM

It may be a little condensation its leaked alittle of recent and maybe its shown its face. Hopefully just a gremlin and it will iron itself out .
Stick with it mate

Sorry to hear this Dave, but stick with it, at the ages of our zeds were gonna have the odd issue or niggle,
Ive felt the same over the past12 mth ,but when I go for a run out with mates I think wtf get a grip moz
Just this weekend on Billz birthday run mi new gaptech wouldnt work doors wouldnt unlock , bummer, , disconnected the battery for half hour, and it partly worked, then after bill stroked it, it decided to play ball again,
Importantly this time I didnt think about gettin shut of it , enjoying driving toooo much,
M

Hang in there Dave, I'm sure one of the Zorg Guru's will find a quick cure :)

Thanks everyone for the replies. It is starting to drag me down tho. I appreciate they need tlc and it gets it with me as you will all know. Serviced on the dot and when it needs stuff it money allows it gets it but it's relentless at the moment. The roof is now on full adjustment and leaking bucket loads everytime it rains aswell. How much would it get an early Z4 for? Just thinking maybe a more modern car may fair better. I'm sure Z4 owners will tell me otherwise!

I still love the car Moz, makes me smile everytime I drive it but it's becoming a bit of a money pit which can can ill afford. I suspect the Dutch cruise will give me the final decision.

Dave you can't get rid your p&j. Stacey and I will come up and give it some loving

IF, you were to look for an early Z4 Dave I doubt you would find one with less mileage than Reggie has done also bear in mind that rear bumper apart, Reggie's paintwork is flawless, again you won't find that on a Z4. I think most Z4 owners would say that the quality of paintwork on Z3's was superior to the Z4. Ok, some issues have all come together but some was preventative maintainance, some required to be done. The roof leak issues would still be unknown if you hadn't had to use your Z as a daily car for a few weeks. Stick with Reggie mate and keep the faith, when you get cruising Europe all this will be at the back of your mind. As was said earlier you wouldn't have even considered taking an MGB over there.

Tony.

My brother came over here with his MG back in the 90's and had no issues what so ever and if you put your food in the little boot, it will cook it for you....

He's a braver man than I Gunga Din! :) Agree on the boot cooker too, apparently MX5's do that as well mate. I renewed the brakes on an MG last week at work that I would've risked, it looked like. Rover 75 =))

Stuff goes in cycles Dave. Same with houses, TVs, washing machines etc. Older cars will always become temperamental, especially where electronics are concerned. With age components like capacitors stop working properly.

I'd accept it and ride it out for a while before you make a big decision considering how much you've put in so far. Act in haste and all that.

I know I know Tony but he's driving me round the bloody twist! Aarggghhhhh!

Might be short term gremlin reggie just testing your commitment older cars all have moments you've been this far with reggie surely you need to carry on .:)
You know better the devil you know and all that.
