Hi all,

Just wondering whether or not the shocks on my sports suspension would be any different from 'standard' suspension? Looking at Sachs shocks to replace the rears.

Thanks in advance

Forsh

If they are the original shocks they will probably be Sachs, who are an OE supplier to BMW. Mine were replaced with Sachs from GSF Car Parts last year and all good :)

Cheers Gaz, good to know.
Did they make a noticeable difference to the back end? All rear bushes being done in the next two weeks, so don't want the rear being let down by 13 y/o shocks!

On the topic of bushes, do Meyle come recommended?

We replaced everything on the rear sub frame and suspension so it's difficult to say if they made much difference specifically. However one of them would compress fully and not spring back out, and the other was really weak.

Meyle are a pretty well known brand. Again all the bushes came from GSF Car Parts and were mainly branded Lemforder.

To be honest, the ride feels pretty 'wallowy' so I think better to replace them.

Will have a look around, cheers

@GazHyde: Am I right in assuming that you have the factory installed Sport suspension?

I took a look on realoem today and found that the shocks are slightly different, standard vs. sport. Kind of makes sense since it's 15mm lower.

I emailed the guys a Soper who said that this was indeed the case - they are different. I'm wondering if you fitted the standard or the sports ones to the rear of your car? The difference in price is rather large at £90-£100 vs. £235...

And if you have fitted standard - any adverse effects?

You can use standard shocks with up to a 30mm drop if I recall correctly. I bought whatever Sachs shocks GSF had in stock and they are perfectly fine.

My rears were so knackered I could have replaced them with a block of wood and it would have driven better though.

Ahhh I see. That's both good news and bad news! I just (an hour ago) returned the shocks that I thought were wrong, that I'd bought at 10% off. So I have a feeling I'll have to buy them back at normal price. :bashhead: You live and learn!

Ha, a worthy upgrade then! Did you replace the top mounts too?
