So my rear light from a LHD car arrived this week. Now I have some very simple mods to do so I end up with 2 reversing lights and 2 rear fog lights. All nice and symmetrical, like cars are meant to be.

More to follow on wiring mods. That looks better !

Tony.
Two reversing lights looks so much better. Good work there

Cheers Steve, I really like the look, like a Z3 has 2 rev lights. As it should be.

Having made the plans up and got all the necessary parts and tools all in one place, this afternoon I finished the rear lights modifications.
First job was change to right rear light unit for the one I got from Lithuania a couple of weeks ago.. Next, cut the feed wire to the rear fog light and leave 3" tail for reconnecting the bridge wire from the left hand reversing light feed. Then I laid a piece of twin core (red and black wires) across from right to left, I stripped both wire ends and soldered the red wire onto the "tail" of the old fog light feed to supply the new reversing light.
003.jpg

The black wire was soldered onto the feed for the inner "ring" of the sidelight circuit, along with the original fog light feed which I had cut earlier.
004.jpg

At the other side of the car the red wire was soldered into the feed for the reversing light and the black wire into the feed for the inner "ring" of the side light circuit.

The soldered joints were then securely taped up to insulate them and the twin core cable was secured to the main wiring harness with some cable ties.

Showtime !!
007.jpg

These are the rear sidelight "rings", next shows sidelights and rear fog lights (2 now) utilising the inner half of the sidelight "rings"

Next is the sidelights, with rear fog lights and, stop lights which utilise the outer "rings" of the sidelights, as the car comes from the factory.

Also showing my "Roadster" emblem on the high level stop light.

Now you see the object of this exercise, to have 2 reversing lights, which are now fitted with "Cree" style LED bulbs for a brighter light.

First with sidelights on,

And then off.

This last one shows the rear indicator light which are also fitted with the Cree LED bulbs but also with load resistors to keep the flasher can from doing it's nut and stopping the Canbus system reporting a bulb out. The number plate lights are also LED bulbs.

I'm really pleased with the outcome and it retains the standard look inside and out.:)

It's great when electrical stuff works out well. I did the footwell lights mod on the Zed a few weeks ago but rather that taking the A pillar trim off I looked at the wiring diagram and worked out where to connect them to on the control box behind the glove box. Well pleased with the result.
