Managed to drop my rear end (ooh madam). Ready for refurb, followed details from Mazzas` post which was extremely helpful. As you see by the pics it is alot more rusty than Mazzas` and deffo needs doing. Good number of bushes deteriorated too. New tank straps to be fitted winging their way from Mazza as I type.

I take it that you are doing other jobs as well, just with all the panels and lights missing?

Yay another sub frame dropped. It's nice to see more and more people doing this at home now.

Watching with interest, might be able to pick up some tips :D

The only tip so far is, stay calm and have a brew. Find it works for lots of jobs haha.:)

I have just removed the drive shafts from the diff to free up the trailing arms for refurb. After removing the six hex bolts on the o/s I found oil inside the shaft housing. It was very wet and yet no oil was present on the outside while it was still fastened together. The n/s is bone dry as you can see on the images. I considered a leak on the gaiter but realised it was far too

wet and oily to be that with the horrible distinctive smell of gear oil. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Input shaft seal. those input shafts just pull out by hand, you'll find a little seal on it. easy to change and pence.

Thanks Lee, investigation underway. Shopping list growing for this refurb with bushes, paint, brake parts e.t.c. Although I suppose that`s the general idea haha. Think I should add a good repair manual to the list, not really good working without one, uh yes, torque settings required on rebuild also.

@pete-r ,
If you look at the Z3 Roadster and Coupe section, there is a thread called Z3 Torque Info. Its an excel spreadsheet in a zip file, of all the torque setting info taken from the Bentleys Service Manual.
If you cant open it, send me a PM with an email address and I’ll send you the file.
