First off I’d check the wheel nuts are tight, then that the rear dampers aren’t leaking. Either of those are easy fixes. Tyres for cracks, bulges or splits, and then tyre pressures. After that it’s checking wheel bearings and bushes.

Definitely not wheel nuts and pressure as o checked them today but maybe dampers could do with a swap
Cheers Gary

I think you've answered your own question there. When you remove these, which are likely the original shockers, they will have no damping left in them. Bear in mind also that the fronts will likely be the same too.

Tony.

ps. Is that something you can do yourself Gary?

If you're wanting a "standard" type ride Sachs are OEM but a lot of people use Monroe. Is this something you can do for yourself ? Reason I ask is that you're only an hours ride from here, ZedShed (Midlands), if you need some help.

That‘s good, but the offer stands. I have spring a compressor and a lifetime of mechanics tools, a lift and a pit free to use.

You're welcome Gary, it's a "not for profit" operation here. As long as it doesn't cost me anything it's fine. You just bring your own bits and use the garage and tools.

Tony.

ps. Something towards electricity now and again appreciated.

I tried to get Monroe Reflex rears recently and couldn’t find any. They are usually plentiful from ebay sellers.

A broken rear spring is not uncommon.

When my original shocks were leaking I installed KYB shocks and new mounts too. Were reasonably priced and helped a lot, maybe check out KYB, a good compromise

Theres a good chance the beam bushes are toast but they are on a lot of Z3s, they can make for a odd ride but its not the end of the world and most owners dont appreciate the difference until after they are changed. I would definitely change the shocks all round first as they are that old and get to the bushes as and when. Bet it makes the world of difference.
