Rear Brake Disc Guards

Hi all, has anyone ever removed the rear brake disc guards of a z3? Any problems?
 
Not done it but just about the too. You need to remove the rear hub, a right PITA. I'll take some pics along the way.
 
New wheels bearings probably required. To gain access you need to remove the drive shaft, then pull the hub off after removing the disc and then get the disc guards off and not damage the wheel speed sensor.

Probably easier to remove the disc and clean/paint what you can access.

Similar at the front so when I cleaned up mine I left all together.

That would be great. Thinking this might be a long term winter job, I could refurb the trailing arms at the same time ( bushes, drop links, sway bar):thumbsup:
 
A few weeks ago I had the same idea when refreshing the rear brakes.

As you can see it is on the back burner for the time being.
 
Is there much chance of cutting out the low part and just sliding it on then bolting it up? would that work? I have only seen pics but intend to change disks later in the year but was having a look at new plates and just wondered if a single cut would get it over the hub with no disc or even cutting out a small section where the plate don't do anything anyway?

I have "seen this done" and TBH it gets the job done. From a purists point of view it's not correct but it's your choice.
