So this post is not about the best price policies as I’ve seen now that cheap insurance is massively false economy when things go wrong (recent experience a family member had with a Mercedes Benz breakdown cover free with the car via RAC was not great, in fact plain stupid in many ways).
So who has had experience of actually using a breakdown service in the EU. This is not for the Z but the family bus (which is 12yrs old so may exclude some providers I guess).
I’m looking for providers that sort stuff when you are stuck rather than be silly and pedantic - recent of how not to do it:car was stuck (key locked in boot of saloon and had to go to a dealer to unlock) in a busy seaside car park so no space for recovery truck to recover until car park empties. Nearly 40c heat. Sunday so rammed full all day and will only empty late night. RAC refuses accommodation or taxi as car is not recovered yet.
All passports, cash etc locked in the car!
Very unhelpful and plain thick Uk call centre was unbelievable (car park shows it has a 2m height barrier on their map - the barrier was unlocked (simple boom bar with padlock). Car had bikes on top and was way over 2m so obviously got in fine. RAC say sorry can’t send truck and offer no alternative-even when telling them then height restriction are open (And there was another entrance for service vehicles with no boom- surely their job is to help make recovery possible rather than argue on the phone).
Eventually much arguing later and 5 calls they send a truck..
Just not worth the aggro for saving pennies I feel so on the lookout for decent cover if I take the family over in the bus.
