Make sure you keep it watered, it could save your life!
1. Check all Christmas lights are serviceable and always unplug when you go out or retire.
2. Be careful where your place lit candles, well away from combustible materials such as curtains etc and never leave unattended.
3. Working smoke alarms save lives, have you checked yours? Two are best, one at the bottom and top of the landing but away from the kitchen and bathroom to prevent alarms from cooking and steam. Check the batteries once a month and replace sealed units at the prescribed time.
4. Close all downstairs doors when you retire, a closed door can aid your safe escape and may confine the fire to that room.
5. Don't Daisy Chain extensions or overload sockets, they can overheat.
6. Don'tlet your children keep mobile devices under their pillows at night, they can and do overheat and catch fire.
7. Don't leave cooking unattended, especially when drinking, most house fires start in the kitchen. Fire extinguisher? The correct type? Correct location? Is it serviceable?
8. Always extinguish cigarettes properly and Don't empty the ashtray into the bin last thing at night.
9. Extra rubbish over Christmas means additional combustible material (higher probability of fire), ensure it's disposed of properly and safely.
10. Check out your Local Authority Fire Brigades Web site for Christmas info and Fire Safety advice in the home.
11. A large family round for Christmas? Have an evacuation plan in mind should the worst occur.
12. In the event of a fire, Get Out, Stay Out and call the Fire Brigade out! NEVER re-enter for ANY reason!
NORAD Santa Tracker is now live! The fat guy, Rudolph and the troops are prepping for the big day, Don't miss it by being a statistic!
