I am going to indulge in two of my preferred subjects: nice driving and the Middle Ages!

Bear with me, but the day has been really nice, so I decided to go just down the road from my house to a location that pretty much swayed me toward moving to the where I now live (200 yards).

So, the background to this picture is the only remaining part of Ramsey Abbey — the gate house. Founded in 969 CE, the abbey was dissolved in 1539 (thanks Henry VIII). The Abbey was an international centre of Hebrew scholarship in the late Middle Ages!

Anyway, Ramsey is now a pretty small, insignificant village near the Fens, but I think it's worth a visit.

A lot like Kettlethorpe about a mile away across the fields from us. Henry had an effect on that church too, it’s where Douglas Hogg the politician lives. You know the one who had a loan to repair the moat around the Hall where he lives. Most of our families marriages, christenings and funerals have been here. Our youngest child is buried in the church yard.

Tony.

Wow, my history doesn't go that far, as I am a foreigner leaving in this green islands… but. I really love the idea of people growing and leaving where their families have been for generations.
I've got to stop being too off thread though, as I can bore you guys non-stop with history and I'd rather talk about the cars. :)

The difference is that most of the abbey was taken/plunged by the Cromwell family, who used stones for their gates.
