Mine had fallen apart when I bought the Z3 so bought one off eBay - rock hard and impossible to fit properly. Just got a proper BMW version, much more pliable but I can't get the aerial to fit any more. I think I fitted the last one incorrectly, the grommet fitted right to the top of the threaded lower section so the actual stalk just screwed on top of the grommet. On the BMW version I can't even reach the threaded section and am wondering if the aerial stalk comes up through the grommet and doesn't just sit on top of it?
Might explain the terrible radio reception I've always had...

The threaded section should be flush with the top of the grommet. It needs some lubrication to get it to pop into the grommet properly.

Got it. There's movement of the bulbous bit that the aerial screws into, up and down by an inch or two. Used plenty of rubber lube and managed to pull it up into the grommet using a threaded bolt. Aerial screwed in first time. It's a much better fit than the other grommet.

Usually, washing up liquid is recommended as a lubricant.

Tony.
