So JUST using the championship winning drivers in this photo, who's the best here in your opinion, and who's your favorite?

For me;
Prost = Best
Mansell = Favorite

Agreed, hard to argue against Prost.

I dunno. I'd probably say Schumaker best though, he rose to such dominance and initially in a car that was not as good. An absolute talent. Imagine if he'd finished his career . . .

I do have a soft spot for Lauda. Yes he was a technician, but to race again to the level he did was pure love of the sport.

From the years I used to watch F1 . . .

Thats a special picture. The best drivers the world has ever seen . . .

Difficult isn't it? You can't put them all in identical cars on the same day! I choose Hamilton as best, not only on his overall race record, but when a young rookie comes into a team with the double World Champ as team mate and immediately is on a par you know he has talent. I liked Mansell, a real 'elbows out' racer. Prost and Stewart immaculately smooth, it is so difficult to compare them all PLUS Senna isn't on there.:oops:

Taken some time after Senna's accident

Agree @Nodzed, ' ......after Senna's accident.' Just mentioned him as he raced against some of those drivers. It makes you think of the many great drivers we lost as well as those that didn't become champions. Thankfully it's a safer sport these days than when drivers wore short sleeved shirts and caps back to front in cars with dubious handling doing well over 100mph on circuits with no real safety features.

Best = Hamilton
Favourite = Mansell
Honourable mentions for Surtees, Stewart & Lauda. :racecar:

Ian.

Tricky one this. So many greats here.
Best: Schumacher.
Fav:. Alonso.

Sure the guy in the headdress raced for Sauber!!??

Best: Schumacher
Favourite: Mario Andretti. Effortlessly cool racer who won in NASCAR, Indycar and took the F1 title with one of the prettiest cars ever, the Lotus 79.

Enjoyed that !

One thing I noticed, the only info the drivers got was from the pitboards. I wonder what would happen in modern F1 if they threw away the on board telemetry module and radio's ? Set the car up before the race and drive with that, driver drives with what he's got for the entire race.

Make it more about the driver and less about the technology ?

There's no substitute for raw talent combined with balls of steel, something a bit lacking in the modern era maybe? 🤔
