Pull up a sand bag thread (or the old soldier brigade!)

Peace keeping between Belize and Guatemala. Was really an easy tour. Spent 4 weeks on top of a mountain with 2 guys and the obligatory Tarantulas and Scorpions. We got that bored we would do a ring of fire and put both in the middle to fight to see who came out on top.
Spent 2 months on an Island in the Keys just giving weather sit reps and ordering stores, i had to do this at 08:00 12:00 and 16:00 the rest of the time was testing the batteries been charged on the Generators all of 10 mins in a morning the remainder of the time was sunbathing swimming and snorkelling

WTF were you up to out there?.....
We had to do a 4 week jungle stay with them so they could learn from us and vice versa.
Will always remember been down by the river and all the English guys running towards camp shouting mamba mamba and all the Gurka's running into the water to catch it

A bit more than Spiders fckn massive Rhino Beetles, that came out at night all you could hear was whooosh thump. Next morning you would find them all over in the wood work.
Also plenty of scorpions and deadly snakes boas pyhtons black mambers
We spent around a month with the Gurkha's when we were there, man they are crazy
I'd rather drape my damp balls over an electric fence!

When we drove into the compound, we had to show our desert pass to the Libyan conscript soldiers who could obviously not read as they would give mine back to my mate and his back to me.....and our mug shot was on them as well....!!

One of them dropped his weapon once and it went off but thankfully in the other direction.
He looked really unhappy, I think he lost the only bullet he had.

I was always on the look out for a camel spider so I could chuck it in my mates container....:D
One time, me and a couple of blokes were looking at this little snake, used to live under the containers, lovely little thing, looked more like a slow worm, then this bloody Austrian runs up and cuts its head off with a spade.....

Me and 2 mates stayed at St Pedro for our 2 week R & R was only a couple of houses and Motels, i would not recognise it now, it even has its own Airport and looking at Google Maps it has every area covered with houses now

This thread could run for ages, I spent 1965 in Bahrain working on Hunters, every 2 or 3 months we would take the aircraft to Sharja from where they used to do air firing practice in the desert.
On days off we would take a 3 tonner and point it across the desert to Dubai and go shopping or go a place called Khan creek for swimming. Looking at it now on Google maps the whole area has disappeared and become a part of Dubai.

R & R used to be for me on the first day I got there as we used to get pished up on the night flight.
After I had sobered up, I did 'hand over' with my colleague in the afternoon before his flight out.

I met up with a few of my old mates to find Half the Platoon i was in have passed away (bear in mind i am 56) and another member is in nick for rape and murder. I think only 2 members passed away in Service

There was only one death when I was out there. Libyan bloke went for a swim in one of our water pits next to one of the rigs.
They were plastic lined and he could obviously not get out and could probably not swim anyhow.
