Had this messaged over to me by Lee, he's collected most of the parts from GSF. The PowerFlex diff bush has been ordered from an online supplier as GSF don't do them!

The rear beam has been dropped off for the old bushes to be pressed out and the new ones pressed in.

Note the blue tack is Hazels, we don't use that normally ;)

Brake Pad Wear Sensor (x1)
Handbrake Cable (x2)
Brembo Brake Disc (set of 2)
Jurid Brake Pads
Rear beam bush (x2)
Drop links (x2)

Copy of invoice for parts. The prices are using Lees trade account so would be lower than you would pay, but gives you an idea of what to expect. I think you would probably add around 20-25% on top.

Well, that's that project finished! Total time estimated at between 10 and 11 hours from wheels up to wheels down . Two evenings and on Saturday (even had a proper lunch break today when popping out for more parts).

One thing I forgot to mention earlier in the thread was that Filbert is now on 161k miles.

A few more pictures from todays efforts. Lee had already picked up the rear beam from the guys who push out and push in the beam bushes. The guy said these were really hard work as they were really bad.

New Brembo brake discs fitted. These have a nice coating on the hubs so shouldn't rust/discolour quickly. They aren't that much more expensive either.

To show the contrast in how a new beam bush act compared the knackered ones earlier in the thread...

Ready to drop off the bench following a sanity check to make sure everything is correct, fitted and tightened.

Dropped to the floor on top of the trolley jack, now need to manouvre and line everything up and raise it.

Raised nice and smoothly despite not lining up on the prop shaft first time. Everything pretty much reconnected, ARBs and exhaust to go!

Hubba hubba... Dem Brembo's!

Touch down...

...and parked back up after a successful smooth test drive. Honestly wouldn't think this car had 161k miles on it, and it's good for the same again. Probably. All work non warrantied...

Did you read this far? Hello if you did! Lee and I were chatting today about how many more Zeds we want to do over the coming months, and pretty much agreed to perhaps do a few more. Now, please remember that we are not a professional garage service - just a couple of guys who like taking Zeds apart and putting them back together. This also really has nothing to do with the forum, just a hobby and a way of keeping us out of trouble over the winter. There are costs associated with doing this that need to be covered - lighting, heating, tools and various consumables. Obviously on top of that you need to pay for the parts, or supply them with the car.

Give Lee or myself a shout via PM if you have any questions - Lee does all the organising as it's his garage. Can't promise to look at everyones Zed as each one takes a certain amount of time, and we need the car left for around 2 weeks. This ain't no Kwik Fit drop it in and wait service!

Hats off to you two gentlemen for your commitment and time. I have been around bike forums where help and advice is given but what you guys do is well above anything I have come across. Without sounding patronising I'm very impressed it,s taking forum spirit and Z appreciation to a new level.

Hi @Lee & @GazHyde

Filbert and Nutty Hazel can't thank you both enough for all your hard work in getting Filbert Butt end bits in order.
I have been so pleased to be able to follow the progress of my loved Filbert on the thread from so far away……… aaah I miss him :(

I now know that is task in Filberts life is now complete and will now go forward for the next 160,000 miles.

I would just like to say, that with out the help of Lee & Gaz plus 18 months of Duncan's sorting Filbert from day one and all work he's done, Dear Filbert would have ended up in the Z3 scrap yard in the sky with other dead Z'd,

Well to some up

Purchased May 2013 All front end completely replaced, McPherson Struts, Disc's, Banana Bars, Callipers, pads, Forte flushing fluid, new oil & filter. New spark plugs and air filters, majority of brake lines replaced with phosphor bronze, braided brake hoses.
July 2013 ABS unit (refurbished)
Nov - Feb 2013 Complete re-spray.
Jun 2014 Air in-take rubber hose replaced.
Aug 2014 New Thermostat, drive belts.
Jun 2015 Additional air in-take rubber hose
Oct 2015 Rear end complete refurbishment, bushes, drop links, diff bush, disc's, pads, handbrake cables. The rest of Lee's lis!

Proposed for 2016 Leather seat refurbishment, subject to funding availability =))

Thanks again Guys from Nutty_Hazel (minus) Filbert :thankyou::scorecard::thankyou::highfive:

Quick question from me, Do you guys change the Diff oil while you doing this? I ask as i noted Filberts cover is quite oily, so may need a top up of fluids, certainly after the miles it should be changed, perhaps something to consider on the future ones easy to do when the Diff is off... Hoping to have mine back this week, while it is having the rear end finished and clutch fitted, I have also asked them to change the propshaft bearing and the guibo and renew the gear box oil, seals and selector bushes, that should be the underneath done completely, Looking forward to winter Garage stories on the future Zeds you guys will be doing...

Great job by you two guys again, I suppose the oil change adds to the costs, I would personally also do the trailing arm bushes whilst on the bench, easy to say I know and you have to draw a line somewhere.

Yeah, it's a trade off some of the time. We generally only change components if they need it, or specifically requested to do so. Most of the time the trailing arm bushes aren't that bad, even when the rest have almost crumbled away. I know for example with Duncan he has specifically requested everything be replaced (with PowerFlex if I recall). If someone brings there car in to the Zed Shed they have either of the two choices open to them.

The wet look is from the underseal, its over everything. Me and duncan spoke about this but it had a full fluid change when they got her.
