An american fighting/hunter dog called swamper
he was an APBT imported..GR CH Swamper out of CH Bullyson.
having always followed pedigrees and watched certain blood lines develop i watched and learned about this blood line for a good few years....it was very tight and could be traced back to 1876 IIRC.
in my mind this line was turning out some very intelligent dogs along with spot on attitudes and high on the shoulder with rangy stance.
the original Swamper died at 7 from kidney failure and there was very few dogs out there with good blood left in them... a mate of mine had one...a very stocky animal... red brindle with gold eyes....stunning to look at but more important he had the right attitude....every much a gentlemen and quick thinking....after a few years he manged to put him over another Swamper bi*** and sadly not long after he died of a very aggressive infection.
one of the pups out of this litter was gifted to me and it was obvious that we were looking at a quirk of nature... as the little pup i'd took home was taller than the others..slimmer than the others...very laid back...with brains to boot.....we watched all the other pups playing...he showed no interest..all he wanted to to was take the cat on!....it seems The Swamper Dog....he was back!
as he grew we all watched in anticipation to see if the pup would really turn into his grand sire ...by another quirk he was born on the same day as my daughter and the storys i could tell would make you laugh your socks of about the two of them growing up with each other.
for the first few years i got the snide remarks about how thin he was...how he didnt conform to the show dog stuff...but boy how did mature....this pup went everywhere with me for day one..on every hunting trip..down the pub...to family gatherings...he was always by my side...this boy could turn his had to everything and became the best dog i ever owned....this unusual name stuck with me and people started calling it me.. especially when i was playing rugby
the big lad ended his life at the hand of a vet at 10 years old after his kidneys failed...just like the original Swamper Dog.
it was very hard of me to wright that as it still guts me till this day...but his name lives on and the lads still talk about him...proper bulldog!
the swamps at 12 month
the Swamper Dog 2 weeks before he died
the partners in crime..
Bill have you got a linky please for S111OMP
