Private Number Plates , people's opinions

Hi Lex, then you should take this up with your MP. They're the one's making law and if no one complains they don't know they are contributing to the continuation of crime by allowing criminals a further 8 days to rip people off. eBay should also be lobbying to get those rules changed. Personally I would report the crime to the police fraud unit as I have done in the past with great results. They were able to build a case against two people who were working in Canada and the USA. And both were eventually convicted. Luckily I wasn't out any $$ as I suspected something before I sent any money. JMHO JIM

I await the innevitable abuse from HardTop. ;)

No abuse mate, what happened there to you is not good and I lke the fact that you have made fellow forum members aware of this.
But what amazes me is that it happened to a Scot with his hard earned pennies......:D

I know, copper wire an' all that.

That's bad news Lexy, tbh I did think you had found a rare real bargain, I guess now we know why, just another scamming scumbag. Hope you don't lose out too much mate.

Tony.

Thanks Tony,

Maybe all is not lost. The plate, as per the DVLA letter, has been withdrawn. I'm hoping that a sympathetic ear may be on the receiving end of my call to the "Sale of Marks" department at the DVLA on Monday. Apparently the girl at the DVLA today said they may sell me it once they have spoken to me.

Sorry to hear this mate. I detest lazy scammy arsed scumbags like this! Fleabay is unfortunately full of them now days. We sold Jue's plate on ebay and all went well but we did have a Nigerian friend wanting to buy it for way over its value and he wanted his 'agent' to come to my house and collect it directly but to do this he wanted me to send £75 via Western union! Yeah right oh! I Google earthed the address he'd given me and I kid you not, it was a shanty town in Nigeria.
On the up side, with you buying metal plates rather than perspex you could weigh them in for scrap value! :D

Haha, well when I say metal, I should probably say tin. My wife has kindly offered to cellotape them onto the back of my iPad to serve as a reminder for me.

When in times of need, she's always been there for me .........

Brilliant! Good you can keep a smile on things mate. To be fair you will be covered by PayPal or ebay. Any fees you've paid there after will be covered by your bank.

Thats bad luck Lex. If you did it through paypal on ebay then they should re imberse you

Hi folks, yeh I'm not convinced I'll get reimbursed. If it's via PayPal/eBays pockets then maybe, but they do stipulate a 30 day limit on this and because of the time it took to process things with the DVLA, I'm over that now.

Anyway, it's only a hundred odd quid. It could have been much worse.

Now on the search for another private plate. Also wheels too if anyone knows of 17 or 18 inch BBST, or polished lip styles for sale.

PayPal has changed it's rules recently and they are a separate entity from eBay so you should be fine! JIM

Most plates cheaper than the price of next years Road Tax, Have one on the other BM but quite happy with the standard reg on the Z although tempted, when i can get a plate very close to the other cars, would work out cheaper as i intend keeping the Z the other plates been on ten cars now at £105 every time i have changed car!
