Is it just me or does the price of Z3's seem to have dropped, I have been watching a number of 2.8s over the last few months and they are certainly not making the sort of money they was, a few very nice sub 100k and they seem to have peaked at around the £2.5 k mark, these where making around £3k shortly after Xmas, the same can be said for the 3.0l as well

Road Fund Licence, CO2 emmisions, small eco 1.0 turbo engines, hybrids, insurance etc etc. Makes it a good buyers market with cheap plentiful supplies of Zeds and parts, which is nice, not so for sellers though.

Everything is dropping, including property prices. The country is nervous about the next 12 months. They will either climb again or fall off the cliff when we can see what Brexit looks like along with all other assets.

The market place is pretty good at the minute though and has been climbing for the last few months after the dip we took

I really don't care much about values, I paid a good price for my Zed 10 years ago and I bought it to use and enjoy which I have. I have no plans to sell it as there is nothing newer which appeals to me.
The only way to keep value in a car is to buy low mileage and then not use it, what fun is there in that?

I just think they peaked a while ago Mike, when I started looking almost 3 years ago a decent 2.8 was around £1500

I was thinking of selling mine over the winter but when I looked at what they're selling for now compared to what I paid for it 8 years ago have totally changed my mind and will be keeping it. Especially as it the baby engine so not as desirable :)

This is ripe amongst the E85 and E89s also. I think it is people who want a quick sale so reduce the price untill they get one then that then sets the bench mark. If people all held out for the higher price untill sold then that would drive prices up and untill that happens then they will continue to fall. JMHO

I bought mine very recently for £1000 with 12mnths MOT and 84k miles. I reckon I will have spent another £600 to have good suspension & brakes and get everthing together near to standard spec. But when I was looking a saw loads being scrapped, which whilst a shame can only move prices up over time,
Paul

they are just another old car, as much as we may want to fool ourselves into thinking they are any different.
Yes if looked after they last well, but it's still a 15-20 year old mass produced car, and not a Ferrari.

But whilst they get cheaper, spares become more available, as more get written off because they are usually beyond economical repair for most.

I think one of the biggest factors is that z4s are really cheap at the moment.

Not sure the average summer car driver would pick a Z3 over a z4

We should celebrate the fact that these cars are so cheap to buy and, generally, to maintain. You can't but a price on "happiness", and the Z3 makes me happy, both maintaining (as a hobby) and driving it daily. The fact that it is relatively low cost allows it to be personalised and driven without considering the impact on residual value. This is refreshing, having owned much more "valuable" sports cars over the years that are now seen by many as an investment, with reluctance to use and "what's it now worth" high on the ownership experience. This is not a "happy" approach to motoring, or life in general IMO. It is great that this forum generally does not follow this theme. Sermon over!:)

A much larger percentage of Z3s were bought as 2nd cars, not daily drivers. They have been treated better than a daily driver would be. This is a double-edged sword.

If you use www.howmanyleft.com, you can see that there are handfuls of E36s left compared to thousands of Z3s. Both cars were sold in the late 90s, so would be built to similar standards. One has been cosseted, one has been treated as a tool and thrown away when no longer needed.

Supply and demand.

Z3 is an iconic car, remember James bond in his made me want one as a young lad and now as a 40 year old I've got one! Paid a lot more than the figures being chucked around on this thread but it's worth every penny and won't be selling any time soon

The seemingly relentless upward march of 'classic' car prices will start to drag Z3s upwards eventually. As Dino D said, look at the advertised prices of decent E30s. I'm a life long old car hobbyist and I'm saddened by the way prices have been driven up by the 'investment' brigade. The amount of money being asked these days for anything old and remotely desirable is just stupid IMHO.
I bought my Z3 as a hobby car. I paid fairly strong money for it but I certainly won't be locking it away to protect its low mileage in the hope that its value will increase - it's a car and to me that means it's meant to be driven and enjoyed :D
