Was looking at a nice Y plate 2.2, really nice apart from the cloth seats.

So I'm wondering, now I have the Z3 bug, is a 2.2 a worthwhile upgrade from the old 1.9, or would I get more fun looking for a similar prices 2.8?

Thanks.

Best to get a drive in both and see for yourself Till. My choice would be a 2.8 but I haven't driven a 2.2 in fairness.
I had a good lo g drive I Ant's car last summer and i was really impressed with the low down torque which made town driving very easy, needing less gear changing. Out of of town a totally different animal.

Tony.

As Tony says try both if you can the 2.8 can get some extra horses from a manifold swap. Got to admit though on a cruise I was following a smaller engined car which made quite a nice exhaust note compared to my ///M I think something to do with the flap in the exhaust to give some extra joy with the pedal.

Thanks for the advice, I'm in two minds at least hahaha.

The 1.9 is good enough for what I want, but a 2.2 can be had for not much more, and as it is a bit newer etc will need a bit less doing?

So maybe I keep the 1.9 until next year? oh man I don't know.

I’ve a 1.9 and a 2.2. Not much in it really. 1.9 but more Revs to get it going. But wouldn’t say the 2.2 would leave it. As it wouldn’t

The 2.2 is a sport so just looks better.

I've had a 1.9 a 2.8 and now a 2.2, for me the choice is simple, the 2.2 is my firm favourite. I did find the 1.9 a little underwhelming, the 2.8 was a nice car, but I felt that the handling wasn't what I wanted, when I found the 2.2 sport that I spent literally years searching for, I found my Z3 nirvana. It does everything I want in my real world driving, twisty country roads with the odd A road/motorway blast, it handles very well and has an exhaust note to die for at just the right engine speed. OK I haven't tried a 3.0, but for me the 2.2 sport is the perfect all round car for my needs, yours of course may vary.
