Possible duff battery

Guys my car has been struggling to start I think my dad had to jump it to get it home from the garage, not sure if they left lights on or something.
Anyway I took the battery out to charge as I wasn't even getting ignition, when I put it on the AA trickle charger, after 5 mins it just goes onto fault.
I think the battery is about 5 year old.

If the battery isn't taking a charge, and as long as you know your charger is ok, then you need a new battery. Just had to buy a new battery for my boys Saab for the same reason

Got it hooked up to a full battery which is also on charge. See if it draws any from there then charges up. If not I'll get a new one tomorrow.

following advice from @mrscalex I bought the Varta 77aHSilver Dynamic from Bassetts in Swansea for £56.99 don't know if still have them.

The vast majority of chargers won’t charge if the voltage is less then, dunno let’s say 8v.

I bought a piece of kit for £100 that can recharge at any voltage. And is known for rescuing batteries others can’t handle.

But you can also trick the charger into providing a charge by piggy backing another charged battery.

That may or may not get you out of the hole. It may need a beefy reconditioner like mine or it may be knackered.

Either way you’re likely to be on the back foot with keeping it charged now. So I’d keep in mind getting a new one.

That's what we are trying now it was reading 8.1V
